Kerrville, Texas- The Centenary men's soccer team takes its five-game winning streak on the road this weekend for a pair of key Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches against Schreiner and Trinity.
The Gents 6-2, 2-0 SCAC) will face the Schreiner Mountaineers (2-8-1, 0-1 SCAC) on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Mountaineer Soccer Field. Centenary then squares off with Trinity on Sunday in San Antonio at 2 p.m. The Gents are currently leading the SCAC, tied with Texas Lutheran as the only 2-0 teams in the SCAC. Trinity and St. Thomas are 1-0 while Southwestern is 1-0-1. The Mountaineers have lost three straight entering Friday's play while Trinity has won four straight and has not lost since Sept. 8 at Hardin-Simmons.
Centenary extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-0 victory over the Colorado College Tigers on Sunday at Mayo Field as the Gents wrapped up an impressive five-game home stand in which they outscored the opposition 13-1 and recorded four shutouts. The Gents are one win away from matching their longest winning streak when they won their final six matches of the 2011 season. Centenary is now 6-0 at home this season and have allowed only one goal in those six games, outscoring its five opponents, 14-1.
Sophomore Wil Escobar was named the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Monday as the midfielder from Cypress, Texas, scored all four goals for the Gents in its pair of home victories last weekend over Johnson and Wales (2-1) on Friday and Colorado College (2-0) on Sunday.
Escobar scored just 31 seconds into Sunday's match leads the Gents with six goals this season, three of which are game winners, and ranks in the top three in the SCAC in points, goals, game-winning goals, and goals per game.
The Player of the Week honor is the second for the Gents this season after Diego Hernandez was named the Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.
Centenary ranks fourth in the SCAC in points (48), goals (19), and second in goals per game (2.38) and fourth in assists with 10. The Gents also lead the SCAC in shutouts with five, tied with Texas Lutheran.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.) ranks first in the conference in save percentage (.873), and saves per game (6.86), second in the conference in goals against average (1.00), and third in saves (48).
