Shreveport- The Centenary softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday evening by the LeTourneau University YellowJackets, 4-1 in game one and 8-3 in game two, at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (6-16) return to action this weekend for a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. LeTourneau improved to 15-7 with the DH sweep.

Game one recap: LeTourneau 4 Centenary 1

The game was scoreless until the YellowJackets scored twice in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. 1B Lexi Hutchins doubled in Graci Hart for a 1-0 lead and 2B Leighton Landreth singled in Hutchins. LeTourneau extended its lead to 4-0 in the seventh as the first two batters in the inning singled. C Callie Poore sacrificed the runners to second and third and Landreth came to the plate.

She flew out to right field for a sacrifice fly and when the throw by freshman Sophie Vidrine (Eunice, La.) back to third base got away trying to get Hutchins tagging up, DP Laney Taylor scored. The Ladies finally got on the board in their last at-bat as junior LF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) grounded out to third with two outs to score freshman Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) and avoid the shutout.

Centenary finished with seven hits and drew a pair of walks, but struck out seven times, left seven on base, and committed two errors. The YellowJackets had six hits, drew one walk, struck out six times, left three on, and did not commit an error. LeTourneau stole five bases while The Ladies stole three, all three by Cox.

Freshman P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) started in the circle for Centenary and went the distance. She pitched well but took the loss and fell to 1-3 on the season as she allowed four runs, two earned, and six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. She faced 28 batters and threw 96 pitches (62 strikes). Murphy Williams (8-1) also pitched a complete game and got the win for LeTourneau. She allowed just an earned run on seven hits with two walks and seven K's. She faced 29 batters and threw 91 pitches (64 strikes).

Junior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) and sophomore DP Kaitlyn Dickey (Church Point, La.) each had two hits for the Ladies and Thrasher was  1-2 with a run scored. Cox was 0-3 but walked once, had the lone RBI and recorded her 12th-career game with multiple stolen bases and stole three or more for the fourth time in her career.

Game two recap: LeTourneau 8 Centenary 3

Former Centenary pitcher Hailee Leger, who starred for the Ladies as a freshman two years ago, started against her former team in the circle in game two and picked up the win to improve to 6-5 on the season.

She went 6.1 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits with no walks and three K's. She faced 29 batters, hitting two, and gave way to Laney Taylor who got the final two outs of the game. Taylor faced three batters with a walk and a strikeout.

Sophomore P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) started for the Ladies and allowed five runs, all earned, on nine hits in 4.1 innings. She did not walk a batter, allowed one home run, and struck out four. Freshman Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) came in for Scarbrock and pitched the final 2.2 innings. She faced 13 batters and allowed three runs, all earned, and four hits with a walk and two K's.

LeTourneau pounded out 13 hits with three being extra-base hits. The visitors walked once, struck out six times, left five on base, and committed one error. Centenary had eight hits, drew one walk, struck out four times, left eight on and did not make an error.

The Ladies scored first as Cox ripped a triple to right field off her former teammate Leger and scored when the throw from the catcher back to the mount after a pitch to the second batter, Stokes, went over Leger's head and into centerfield. LeTourneau, though, scored twice in the second and six more times in the fifth to run away with the win. Centenary scored twice in its final at-bat as Stokes delivered a two-RBI triple.

Stokes finished 3-4 with two RBI and Cox was 2-4 with two runs scored, but the Ladies only managed three other hits and a walk from the remainder of the lineup. SS Kylie Grisham, Williams, and Landreth combined to go 7-12 with three RBI and five runs scored and Izzy Tresca was 1-1 with a pinch-hit bases-loaded double.

Centenary's weekend series at Trinity (5-19, 2-4 SCAC) begins on Saturday with a doubleheader set for Noon and 2 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Sunday at Noon. The Ladies are also 2-4 in league play after losing a pair of series at home to St. Thomas and Texas Lutheran.
