Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary softball team fell 7-1 in the rubber game of its three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series against the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon at Mountaineer Softball Field.

The Ladies (15-21, 10-8 SCAC) and Mountaineers (16-19, 9-9 SCAC) split a doubleheader on Saturday with Schreiner winning game one by a score of 11-5 and Centenary rebounding with a 9-0 victory in five innings. Despite losing the series, the Ladies have still won eight of their last 10 games overall and finished 6-6 on the road.

Centenary's 10 conference wins marks its most since going 12-10 in the 2019 season and 12 is the most conference games that the Maroon and White have won in a single season in the division III era (2012-present).

The Ladies will finish their regular season at home next weekend against the Southwestern University Pirates (19-18, 12-6 SCAC). The Pirates are currently in third place in the SCAC standings, two games ahead of the Ladies. The 2023 SCAC Softball Championship is set for May 5-7 in San Antonio with Trinity serving as the host. The top six teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the event.

Schreiner scored one run in the bottom of the first and added three more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Ladies scored a run in the top of the fourth but the Mountaineers answered with three more in the bottom half to extend their lead to 7-1 and complete the scoring. Schreiner finished the game with nine hits and Centenary had seven. The Mountaineers drew six walks, struck out two, and left nine on base. The Ladies walked once, struck out twice, and left seven on base.

Freshman P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) started in the circle and suffered the loss to fall to 4-4 as she allowed six runs, all earned, and seven hits in 3.1 innings. She walked two, did not record a strikeout, and allowed one home run. Freshman P/UT Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) came in for Roach and went the final 2.2 innings and allowed one earned run and two hits with four walks and two K's.

Trysten Liesman (4-1) went the distance and got the win for the Mountaineers as she limited the Ladies to just the one earned run and seven hits in her seven innings of work. She walked one and recorded a pair of K's.

Sophomore C Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) drove in the Ladies' lone run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth that scored freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) after she led off the inning with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) and went to third on a wild pitch.

Rivero and Stokes had two of the Ladies' seven hits. Junior OF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) went 1-4, freshman C/3B Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) was 1-3 and junior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) also went 1-3. Junior SS Mackenzie Clark (Upland, Calif.) went 1-3 and sophomore 3B Alyssa Akers (Maurice, La.) was 1-2 with a single and a BB.

CF Malorie Solis, RF Kendall Lipplod, and 3B Taci Tatum led the way for the Mountaineers as they finished a combined 6-9 with four RBI and three runs scored. Tatum walked twice, LF Danielle Pedraza was 1-3 with a walk, run scored, and stolen base, and 2B Annie Wallace was 1-3 with a two-run homer, a walk, and a run scored.

The Ladies' series against Southwestern begins on Saturday with a DH set for Noon and 2 p.m. and then a single game on Sunday at Noon which will be Senior Day.
