San Antonio, Texas- The Centenary softball team split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday with the Trinity University Tigers, winning game one by a score of 7-6 and falling 6-5 in game two at the Trinity Softball Field.

The series between the Ladies (7-17, 3-5 SCAC) and Tigers (6-21, 3-5 SCAC) concludes with the third and final game on Sunday at Noon.

Game one recap: Centenary 7 Trinity 6

The Ladies scored twice in the top of the first inning and the Tigers answered with three in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead. The Maroon and White then scored three times in the top of the second to regain the lead at 5-3. The Tigers scored one in their half of the second to trail 5-4.

Centenary added single runs in the fourth and sixth and Trinity scored one in the fifth and one in the seventh but fell a run short as pinch hitter Lanie Smith grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game with the tying run on third.

Each team finished with 11 hits and the Ladies drew six walks, struck out three times, made three errors, and left 11 on base. The Tigers did not walk the entire game, struck out twice, left seven on base, and played error-free ball.

Sophomore P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) started in the circle for the Ladies and went the distance to get the win and improve to 4-7 on the season. She allowed six runs, three earned, and 11 hits in seven innings with no walks and two strikeouts. She faced 34 batters, hitting one, and threw 107 pitches (73 strikes) as she tossed her team-high sixth complete game.

Bella Gutierrez (3-4) started for the Tigers and lasted just two innings. She gave up five runs, all earned, and six hits with two walks and one K. She faced 14 batters and threw 40 pitches (25 strikes). Brooke Porter relieved her and went the next two innings as she allowed one earned run and two hits with a walk and no K's. Jordan Arce pitched the final two innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with three BB and two K's.

Sophomore 3B/C Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) put the Ladies up early with a two-run double that drove in freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) and senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) who had singled with one out.

Trinity 1B Jordyn Williams drove in the Tigers' first run with a single and Carsyn Lee had a two-run single to make it 3-2. Stokes had a sacrifice fly in the second to tie the game, Patridge had an RBI groundout, and junior RF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) scored on a wild pitch for a 5-3 lead.

Junior 1B Isabelle Dominguez (Newark, Calif.) walked with the bases loaded in the fourth and freshman C Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) had a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the Ladies' final run of the game.

Cox was 3-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base from the leadoff spot and Patridge and sophomore SS Brooke Sandefur (Denham Springs, La.) each had two hits. Rivero finished 1-2 with two RBI, two walks, and a run scored. Stokes was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Dominguez was 1-3 with an RBI and a walk. Freshman Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) was 1-3 with a walk and run scored.

Carsyn Lee was 4-4 with three RBI and a stolen base and Dawson Dabboussi was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Tigers. Jordyn Williams finished 2-4 with two RBI and a double. Hayden Del Toro was 1-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

Game two recap: Trinity 6 Centenary 5

The Ladies scored one in the top of the first and then the Tigers responded with four in the bottom half for a 4-1 lead. Each team scored a run in the third and then Centenary scored three times in the top half of the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. Trinity scored the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth and made it hold up.

Each team finished with seven hits. The Ladies drew one walk, only struck out two times, and left four on base. The Tigers drew three walks, did not strike out, and left six on. Trinity made one error while the Ladies committed three.

Freshman P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) started and went three innings, allowing five runs, all earned, and five hits with two walks and no strikeouts. She faced 18 batters, hitting one, and threw 50 pitches – 26 for strikes. Freshman Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) pitched the final three innings and was charged with the loss. Crow (2-1) only allowed one unearned run and two hits with one walk and no K's. She faced 12 batters and threw 48 pitches (24 strikes).

Emery Boettcher started for the Tigers and pitched two innings. She allowed two runs, both earned, and four hits with a walk and a strikeout. She faced 12 batters and threw 39 pitches (25 strikes). Lanie Smith relieved her and went two innings, allowing three runs, all earned, and three hits. She faced nine batters, hit one, and threw 28 pitches (19 strikes). Brooke Porter (1-2) got the win as the third and final pitcher of the game for Trinity. She pitched three impressive innings as she did not allow a run or a hit with one K. She faced nine batters and retired them all in order, throwing 26 pitches (22 strikes).

Stokes reached on an error which allowed Cox to score for an early 1-0 Ladies' lead. Jordyn Williams then tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom half, Dabboussi scored on a passed ball, then Peyton Bowser then capped the scoring with a two-run double for a 4-1 lead.

Stokes singled in Cox in the third to cut the Ladies deficit to 4-2 but a Carsyn Lee in the bottom half made it 5-2 Trinity. Cox hit a sac fly in the fourth to make it 5-3 and Patridge tied the game at 5-5 with a two-run double that scored Stokes and Sandefur.

Mariana Delaluna doubled to left center to start the bottom of the fifth inning. Jordyn Williams popped out but Carsyn Lee reached on an error. Bowser then singled to center to load the bases with one out. Crow then uncorked a wild pitch that scored Delaluna. Sydney Watson then walked but the Ladies escaped further trouble as Angela Baltzell lined into an inning-ending double play.

Cox finished 2-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases, Hodgson went 2-3, and Patridge was 1-2 with two RBI and a walk. Stokes, Thrasher, and Sandefur combined to go 3-9 with an RBI. Bowser and Delaluna were a combined 4-6 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers.
