Game one recap: Centenary 7 Dallas 1

The Ladies jumped out to a 2-0 lead after an inning, added two more runs in the third, and scored twice more in the fifth. The Crusaders avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the sixth.

Centenary finished with 11 hits, drew three walks, only struck out once, committed two errors, and left 12 on base. The Ladies stole four bases and had three players finish with two or more hits apiece. Dallas finished with only three hits, walked three times, struck out one time, left five on base, and committed five errors.

Freshman P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.) picked up the win to even her record at 3-3. She went five innings and did not allow a run on two hits. Roach walked two, struck out one and faced 19 batters, throwing 59 total pitches (36 strikes). Freshman Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) relieved Roach and pitched the final two innings as she allowed one unearned run on one hit with a walk and no K's. She faced eight batters and threw 24 pitches – 14 strikes.

Caitlynn Freyman (2-9) suffered the loss for the Crusaders. She allowed four runs, but none earned, and six hits in her four innings of work with two walks and one K. She faced 23 batters and threw 68 pitches (42 strikes). Isabella Garza pitched the final three innings and allowed three runs, two earned, and five hits with a walk and no K's. She faced 17 batters, hit one, and threw 42 pitches, 28 for strikes.

Centenary scored first, converting on a double steal as senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) stole home and sophomore SS Brooke Sandefur (Denham Springs, La.) stole second. Patridge started the game with a single and went to third when Freyman made a throwing error on Sandefur's sacrifice bunt attempt. Sandefur then scored on a two-out wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Abigail Hodgson (Georgetown, Texas) delivered a two-run single in the third to extend Centenary's lead to 4-0. Patridge singled in Hodgson and freshman RF Sophie Vidrine (Eunice, La.) in the fifth to make it 6-0. Garza walked in freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) with the bases loaded in the seventh for the Ladies' final run of the game.

Patridge finished 3-5 with two RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases. Hodgson was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and Vidrine was 2-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Sandefur was 1-3 with a run scored and a stolen base and Stokes finished 1-3 with an RBI and two walks.

Game two recap: Centenary 6 Dallas 5 (11 innings)

The Ladies led 3-0 after two innings but the Crusaders scored three times in the sixth to tie the game. Each team scored a run in the seventh and again in the eighth. A scoreless ninth, though, sent the game two extra innings tied at 5-5.

Centenary pushed across a run in the top of the 11th and retired the Crusaders in the bottom half to clinch the one-run win and the series sweep. The Ladies finished with 19 hits, two shy of their single-game season high. They drew two walks, struck out four times, made one error, and left 20 on base. Dallas managed just eight hits, did not draw a walk, struck out five times, made two errors, and left four on base.

Sophomore P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) went the distance and got the win as she pitched a career-best 11 innings, picking up her second win of the weekend after blanking the Crusaders, 4-0, on Friday night. She allowed five runs, all earned, and eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts. She faced 40 batters, hitting one, and threw 112 pitches (82 strikes). The complete game is her team-leading eighth of the season.

SunnyDale Thies (2-9) also pitched a complete game and took the loss for the Crusaders. She allowed six runs, three earned, and the 19 hits with two walks and four K's. She faced 57 batters, hitting one, and threw a whopping 153 pitches (104 strikes).

Sandefur doubled home Patridge in the first for a 1-0 lead and a Patridge RBI single coupled with a run scoring on a passed ball in the second made it a 3-0 game. CF Emily Luna got Dallas on the board with an RBI single in the sixth and 3B Mariah Hinojosa followed later in the inning with a two-run single to tie the game.

Sophomore C Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) broke the tie with an RBI single in the seventh to score Vidrine but Thies helped herself with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to score RF Sara Hey and tie the game at 4-4. Vidrine drove in senior CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) with a single in the eighth for a 5-4 lead but the Crusaders responded in the bottom of the eighth as 1B Faith Martin drove in LF Abby Lasley with a single to again tie the game at 5-5. Martin, though, was thrown out trying to get to second base to end the inning.

Each team went quietly in the ninth and then the Ladies left two on base in the top of the 10th. Luna reached on an error with two outs in the bottom of the 10th but Lasley flew out to send the game to the 11th.

Patridge singled home freshman Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas) with one out to put the Ladies ahead 6-5. Thrasher had been placed on second to begin the inning. Vidrine laid down a sacrifice bunt which moved her to third, and Patridge came through with the clutch go-ahead knock. Lasley was placed on second to begin the Crusaders' half of the 11th and she promptly stole third. With the potential tying run just 60 feet away, Scarbrock got C Daniela Rosario to pop out for the first out.

Lasley then gambled and was caught in a run-down and was tagged out between third and home for the second out. Hinojosa then grounded out to second to end the game as Stokes made a smooth play with her momentum taking her backwards and to her left toward the outfield grass and threw to sophomore 1B Kaitlyn Dickey (Church Point, La.) just in time to get the out as the Ladies celebrated.

Vidrine led the way with a season-best five hits in her best offensive performance of her young career. She was 5-5 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. She singled in the second, singled and stole a base in the third, singled for a third time in the fifth, had another single in the seventh, and had her RBI single in the eighth.

Patridge finished 4-6 with two RBI and a run scored and Stout had a season-best four hits as she went 4-6 with a run scored and a stolen base. Rivero went 3-5 an RBI and a walk and Hodgson, Stokes, and Sandefur each had one hit. Vidrine picked up her first two multi-hit games of her career in the DH as she finished the day a sizzling 7-9 with four runs scored, an RBI, and a pair of stolen bases. Patridge now has 11 multi-hit games this season, three in a row, and four which include three+ hits.

The Ladies will return home next weekend to face Austin College in a three-game weekend series set to begin on Saturday, April 15 with a single game at 2 p.m. The Ladies and 'Roos then complete the conference series with a DH on Sunday at Noon and 2 p.m.
