Ladies Set To Face Trinity In Weekend Series

San Antonio, Texas- The Centenary softball team returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend versus the Trinity University Tigers beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday set for Noon and 2 p.m. at the Trinity Softball Field.

The series concludes with the third and final game on Sunday at Noon.

The Ladies (6-16, 2-4 SCAC) were swept in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday evening by the LeTourneau University YellowJackets, 4-1 in game one and 8-3 in game two, at the Centenary Softball Complex. The Tigers (5-20, 2-4 SCAC) lost at home to DePauw University (IN) on Thursday night at home. The Ladies went 0-4 against the Tigers last season as they were swept in a three-game series at home and then fell 7-0 in the final meeting of the season at the SCAC Tournament in Irving, Texas.

The Ladies recorded their biggest victory in the division III era (2012-present) last Saturday as they edged No. 4 Texas Lutheran University 7-6 in game one of a SCAC doubleheader at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies handed the Bulldogs, ranked fourth nationally by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), their first conference loss since March 2, 2019 against Southwestern with the game one win. The Ladies had only beaten the Bulldogs twice in 33 all-time meetings (two wins in 1990) before Saturday. 

HITTERS TO WATCH:

Sophomore 3B/C Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.)

.308 average (.356 OBP/.462 slugging %) 20 H 16 R 3 HR 13 RBI 1 double

*Rivero had a big day at the plate on March 19 at home against St. Thomas as she belted a pair of home runs and finished 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored and became the first Centenary player to hit two HR's in a game since All-American Anna Dunn did so against Dallas on April 14, 2018. Rivero hit a one-out solo homer to center in the third and went deep again to lead off the fifth.

Freshman C/UT Jaeden Thrasher (Forney, Texas)

.236 average (.283 OBP/.455 slugging %) 13 H 5 R 2 HR 13 RBI 6 doubles 2 stolen bases

Junior OF Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.)

.342 average (.402 OBP/.507 slugging %) 25 H 20 R 11 RBI 4 doubles 4 triples 14 stolen bases

*Cox, one of the conference's top all-around players, recorded her 12th-career game with multiple stolen bases in Tuesday's DH versus LeTourneau (three steals) and stole three or more for the fourth time in her career. She is the D3-era (2012-present) leader in steals with 70.

Freshman 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.)

.348 average (.390 OBP/.449 slugging %) 24 H 10 R 10 RBI 5 doubles 1 triple 3 stolen bases … 1.000 fielding %

*The rookie has an impressive seven multi-hit performances so far this season an has yet to make an error in 114 total chances.

Senior LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.)

.350 average (.409 OBP/.550 slugging %) 21 H 7 R 13 RBI 1 HR 5 doubles 2 triples 4 stolen bases

*Named the SCAC Hitter of the Week on Feb. 20 after she made history in the 2023 Warrior Spring Fling hosted by Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. the weekend before. In the Ladies' 20-7 five-inning win over Westminster (Mo.) on Feb. 18, she hit for the cycle as she went 5-5 with eight RBI. Her eight RBI sets a new SCAC mark for RBI in a single game in league history. She blasted a two-run homer in the first, singled to lead off the second, hit a bases-loaded, three-RBI double later in the second inning, a bases-loaded, three-RBI triple in the third, and a double in the fifth. Her five hits finished tied for second most in SCAC history for a single game. For the weekend in leading Centenary to a 2-2 record, Patridge finished with an impressive .636 batting average with six extra base hits, nine RBI, six runs scored and one walk. She posted a remarkable 1.545 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.

PITCHERS TO WATCH:

Freshman P Alexis Roach (Pineville, La.)

8 APP 7 GS 1-3 4.62 ERA 2 complete games 36.1 IP 18 K's

*Roach started and picked up the win and her first-career complete game in the 7-6 win over TLU as she allowed six runs, five earned, and seven hits in her seven innings of work. She walked four and struck out three.

Sophomore P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) 

14 APP 12 GS 3-7 4.13 ERA 5 complete games 64.1 IP 31 K's  

*Scarbrock was the tough-luck loser in the Ladies' 1-0 loss to TLU last Friday in the series opener as she pitched a complete game and allowed just one unearned run and eight hits in her seven innings of work with four walks and three strikeouts.
