Ladies Earn Highest Season-Opening Score In 15 Years On Saturday

Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The Centenary gymnastics team posted its highest score in a season-opening meet in 15 years on Saturday, finishing with a 188.30 to finish second in a non-conference tri-meet against host Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) and Greenville University at Houck Field House.

The Ladies were second to host SEMO's 193.350 while Greenville placed third at 180.475. Centenary's top event score was on vault (47.55) followed by beam (47.525), a 47.175 on floor, and a 46.05 on bars. 

Freshman Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas) had an impressive collegiate debut for the Ladies as she finished third in the All-Around competition with a 37.125 score. SEMO's Lydia Webb won the All-Around with a 38.525 and her teammate Taylor Ingle finished second ahead of Foret with a 38.35.

Senior Lacey Wedge (Belle Chasse, La.) finished second in the vault competition with a career high 9.70, senior Kennedy Stephens (Bella Vista, Ark.) scored a new career-high 9.625 on beam to tie for fifth place, and senior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) tied her career high (9.475) on floor to finish eighth.

Foret finished as runner-up on beam with a 9.725 and finished fourth on floor with a 9.75, her best individual score of the meet. Sophomore Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.) finished in a tie for third on beam with a 9.65 and Stephens tied for fifth (9.625). Junior Rylie Molina (Moss Bluff, La.) finished eighth (9.575). SEMO's Nyah Reader won the beam competition with a 9.75.

Senior Taylor Ann Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.) was the Ladies' top finisher on bars, earning a 9.575 to tie for fourth. Freshman Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) finished seventh with a 9.525. SEMO's Lindsay Ockler won the bars competition with a 9.725.

Several Ladies made their first appearances in events on Saturday as Stephens made her career debut on floor, senior Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) made hers on beam, sophomore Carissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.)  on vault, and junior Isabel Plaza (San Antonio, Texas) on bars.

Centenary will face host Texas Woman's University along with Air Force and Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Denton, Texas on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
