Shreveport - The Centenary gymnastics team was edged by the Texas Woman's University Pioneers, 191-700-189.525, in a Midwest Independent Conference dual meet on Friday evening at the Gold Dome.

 The Ladies drew an impressive crowd on "Youth Night" and recorded their second-highest team score of the season. The Ladies and Pioneers were competing against each other for the second time this season after TWU hosted the Maroon and White in a quad meet last month in Denton, Texas in which the Ladies earned a third-place finish with a 191.325 team score, their highest of the season.

Centenary's top individual score was on beam (48.225) followed by a 47.350 on vault, a 47.150 on floor, and a 46.800 on bars. The Pioneers' top score was a 48.700 on vault followed by a 48.675 on floor, a 48.250 on beam, and a 46.075 on bars. The Ladies' recorded their second-best scores on both bars and beam so far this season.

Senior Taylor Ann Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.) won the bars competition with an impressive 9.70 and freshman Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas) finished third at 9.60.

Sophomore Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.), freshman Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas), and sophomore Carissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished third through fifth on beam. Lavelle earned a career-high 9.75, Foret a 9.70, and Martinez a 9.675.

Senior Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) was the Ladies' top finisher on floor with a new career-high 9.775 and Foret was just behind her in fourth place with a 9.70.

TWU's Daisy Woodring won the vault (9.825), her teammate Alixandra Pierce won on beam (9.85) and also won on floor with a 9.825. Woodring was second on floor with a 9.80. Senior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) finished third on vault with a new career-high 9.75.

The Ladies will be off next weekend and return to action at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
