Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Feb. 1 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Feb. 1 Edition

Long time no see Ladies Gym Fans! I'm so excited to give y'all the rundown of our first home meet this season at the DOME!

Not only was it our home opener in the dome, but it was also our annual Sylvia night in honor of former alumna Sylvia Keiter. This night is always so special because we're competing for a bigger purpose and to have all the alumnae who were also former teammates with Sylvia made the night just as special!

Of course since we were home, that means we started off the meet on vault, which may I add was our highest event score of this meet along with floor being a 47.9500… can you say WOW?! The vault crew didn't come to play, let me tell you! Sophomore Carissa Martinez and I scored our career highs on vault both being a 9.7 and tied for 1st place, senior Kendall Huff and freshman Amy Foret also both earned their season highs as well! So, all I have to say about that is we definitely had some Vault Shakers killing it on vault!

We then kept that same energy and brought it over to bars where it was the Bar Stars time to swing and shine! Freshman Sophie Schmitz put up a beautiful bar routine which earned her 1st place! Senior Kendall Huff earned yet again another season high and was getting the job done on those bars along with the rest of the bar crew, who swung with all they had and fought to the finish!

Then we headed over to beam with the Beam Queens and I have to say kudos to sophomore Emma Lavelle for not only earning her season high, but for being a real beamer out there. She came to hit! I also want to recognize the rest of the beam squad. Even though we had some falls, the Ladies picked right back up from where they left off and never gave up! Talk about some perseverance!

To wrap up the rest of the meet, the Ladies brought it home by ending on floor. What better place to party than in the Dome on floor with the Ladies and the crowd! Back at it again with the career high's, sophomore Carissa Martinez and freshman Amy Foret were quite the Floor Roars, if I do say so myself! The rest of the floor crew performed great and it was such a blast not only for the fans, but the Ladies as well!

And of course, there's no better way to close out the home opener than with a win in the Dome and on such a special night at that! I have to say the night was full of fight and although we had some hiccups, that never stopped us from competing for the bigger purpose, which was Big Syl. The Ladies took are ready to get back in the gym and put together some pieces to be prepared for our double meet weekend in Normall, IL on Feb. 3 where we will be taking on Illinois State and Bowling Green and then we'll head to St. Charles, MO on Feb. 5 to take on Lindenwood and Greenville!

Oh how I love getting to fill you all in on the life of the Ladies! I wish I could talk to you guys longer, but that's all the time I have for this gym talk!

Catch ya later;)
