Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Jan. 18 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: Jan. 18 Edition

Hey Ladies Fans! Senior Kendall Huff back again with this week's gym talk!

Last week was a very busy and fun one for the Ladies! It was our first week back for the Spring semester and the Ladies started off strong by making sure we were getting as far ahead as we could in our classes as we are starting our season! We had a combined meeting with football over different ways to prepare for the semester and how to improve our time management skills.

We had our first meet this past weekend in Cape Girardeau, Missouri against Greenville and host team Southeastern Missouri State University! To start our trip off, though, we had to get some food to fuel our body. So, once we got to Missouri, we went to this really cool restaurant, Lamberts, where they literally throw rolls at you! Yes, I said THROW! Those rolls sure did taste good!

All the Ladies were pumped to start the season and we started the meet off with a very strong beam rotation! Rylie Molina led us off with a HIT beam routine! Emma Lavelle followed with another HIT beam routine! Next Leilani Johnson made her beam debut! I couldn't have been more excited for her! Freshmen Amy Foret also made her college debut on beam and absolutely killed it, earning our highest score on the event of a 9.725! Kennedy Stephens and Carissa Martinez finished our first rotation off strong with some beautiful routines!

Our next event was floor! We had so much fun cheering and dancing along to everyone's routines! I led off the event, then Kennedy Stephens followed. This was Kennedy's floor debut, and she did amazing with a huge double tuck! Emma Lavelle went third with a very powerful double pike! Amy Foret followed with another amazing routine scoring a 9.75! Lacey Wedge also performed a fantastic routine with two double passes!

We carried floor's energy over to vault! Isabel Plaza started us off strong with a Tsukahara layout! Leilani Johnson had a huge Yurchenko layout. I then went, competing a Yurchenko tuck full. Lacey Wedge competed her front handspring pike for the first time getting a huge score of a 9.7! Carissa Martinez made her vault debut in the anchor spot with a Yurchenko layout full!

We finished strong on bars! We had three people make their bar debut - Isabel Plaza, Sophie Schmitz, and Amy Foret. All three of them had beautiful routines! Taylor Wilson, Emma Lavelle and I completed the bar lineup. Taylor competed a great routine with a shaposh to pak connection and a full out dismount, earning our high on bars with a 9.575.

We ended the meet with a score of 188.3, the highest season-opening score in 15 years! The Ladies had a blast competing and cheering each other on! We can't wait to do it again on Friday in a quad meet in Denton, Texas. We will be taking on TWU, Air Force, and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Make sure to check back in next week to see what the Ladies are up to!

XOXO
