Wilson Earns Second-Place Finish On Bars; Martinez Ties For Seventh On Floor At Nationals

Denton, Texas – Senior Taylor Ann Wilson (Memphis, Tenn.) finished second in the bars competition on Saturday in the individual event finals at the 2023 USA Gymnastics Women's Collegiate National Championships while sophomore Carissa Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) tied for seventh on floor inside Kitty Magee Arena on the campus of Texas Women's University.

Wilson, the 2021 individual national champion on bars, scored a 9.825 and Martinez earned a 9.75 on floor. Martinez tied for third on floor on Thursday with a new season and career-high 9.85 to qualify for Saturday's finals and Wilson finished fifth on bars with a 9.80. Martinez and Wilson both earned First-Team All-American honors this weekend.

They were two of eight Centenary Ladies to qualify for the championships this weekend along with freshman Amy Foret (Bedford, Texas), senior Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas), senior Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.), sophomore Emma Lavelle (Mandeville, La.), freshman Sophie Schmitz (Trophy Club, Texas), and senior Kennedy Stephens (Bella Vista, Ark.).

Foret and Schmitz each earned Second-Team All-American honors as Foret tied for seventh place on floor with a 9.80 on Thursday while Schmitz earned a season-high 9.775 on bars to tie for sixth place.
