Conway, Ark. – The Centenary softball team will face the Hendrix College Warriors on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader with games set for 2 and 4 p.m. at Warrior Softball Field.
Live stats and video are available for both games at: https:/hendrixwarriors.com.
The Ladies (2-0) will take the field for the first time since opening their season with a road doubleheader sweep of Texas-Dallas on Feb. 6. Hendrix will open its season on Thursday. The teams were originally supposed to meet last weekend in the 2021 Warrior Spring Fling hosted by Hendrix, but the recent winter weather cancelled the event. The teams will meet for the first since Hendrix won two of three games in the 2019 season.
Centenary will be in action for the first time in 19 days as their month of February has been repeatedly interrupted by weather. The Ladies were originally scheduled to face ETBU in a non-conference doubleheader on the road on Feb. 16 but the games were postponed to March 1.
The Ladies, off to a 2-0 start for the first time in six seasons, were impressive earlier this month in their pair of wins over the UTD Comets, winning game one by a score of 2-0 and then took the second game, 2-1. Freshman pitcher Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) tossed a complete-game shutout for her first career win in the circle. Leger was superb as she struck out seven, did not walk a batter, and allowed seven hits as she threw 98 pitches, 73 for strikes Leger then came on in relief in game two and picked up the save as she pitched the final three innings and allowed just one hit with one strikeout. Leger finished the day allowing just eight hits while striking out eight without allowing a run, posting a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings of work. She was named the SCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 8 following her impressive debut.
Junior Ashley Hunter (Benton, La.) got the start for the Ladies in the circle in game two and picked up the win as she went four innings and allowed just one run on five hits with no walks and no strikeouts. She threw 43 pitches, 31 for strikes. Sophomore left fielder Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) had the Ladies' first RBI of the game and fellow sophomore Britlyn Garrett (Stonewall, La.) recorded her first-career hit, a go-ahead home run in the fourth inning that proved to be the winning run.
The Ladies were scheduled to play host to Millsaps on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader in what was set to be their home opener, but the teams will now meet in Lafayette, La. for three games over two days, playing a single game on Friday at 8 p.m. and will then face off in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.
The Ladies are scheduled to face ETBU in a doubleheader on Monday, March 1 at 5 and 7 p.m. in Marshall, Texas and will play host to Austin College March 6-7 in their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opening series.
