Ashley Hunter of Ladies Softball Named SCAC Pitcher of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Centenary junior pitcher Ashley Hunter of Ladies softball was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday for games played from Tuesday, February 9 through Sunday, February 28.

Hunter (Benton, La.) earned the honor for the first time in her career. She went 2-0 last week for the Ladies, picking up a win over Hendrix last Thursday before returning to the circle on Saturday to earn a win over Millsaps. For the week, Hunter pitched 11 innings, scattering just nine hits, and allowing just two earned runs for an ERA of 1.27. She struck out seven and walked just three, while averaging 4.45 strikeouts per seven innings. 

She pitched leads the conference in wins and is 3-1 this season with a 3.11 ERA. In 18 innings pitched, she has allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 21 hits with six walks and 10 strikeouts.

Monday's honor marked the second week in a row that a Ladies pitcher earned SCAC Pitcher of the Week recognition after Hunter's teammate freshman Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) earned the award on Feb. 8. Centenary has picked up the first two Pitcher of the Week awards this season.

The Ladies will finally play at home for the first time all season this weekend versus the Austin College 'Roos as Centenary opens SCAC play. The teams are scheduled to play a DH on Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday the 7th.
