Softball Clinches Series Win Versus Southwestern on Saturday

Shreveport - The Centenary softball team blanked the Southwestern Pirates by a score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest as the Ladies clinched a series win after splitting a doubleheader on Friday at the Centenary Softball Complex.

The Ladies (14-12, 7-4 SCAC) have now won five of their last six games after completing a three-game sweep of Dallas last weekend on the road. Southwestern fell to 8-13 and 6-6 in conference play with the loss. Centenary is now third in the SCAC standings behind leader Texas Lutheran and second-place St. Thomas.

Freshman Hailee Leger (Belle Chasse, La.) tossed her second-straight complete-game shutout to improve to 7-6. She allowed just four hits in her seven innings of work with two walks and three strikeouts. Leger threw 77 total pitches, 53 for strikes. She blanked the Pirates on Friday in game one of the DH as she allowed just four hits, all single, in her seven innings with a walk and three strikeouts and threw 71 pitches, 51 for strikes. Leger, who lowered her conference-best ERA to 1.39, now has 68 strikeouts this season in 90.2 innings pitched while only walking seven total batters. Leger has now thrown six complete games, three shutouts, and has four saves in her 19 appearances (14 starts).

Paige Rassmusen (2-4) took the loss for the Pirates as she allowed two runs, both earned, and five hits in her six innings of work with two walks and a strikeout. Ladies' freshman right fielder Mackenzie Cox (Alexandria, La.) went 2-3 with a double, and a run scored to lead the offense. Sophomore LF Kaylea Patridge (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior 2B Jaymee Wilkinson (Brazoria, Texas) each had an RBI. Sophomore third baseman Britlyn Garrett (Stonewall. La.) and fellow sophomore CF Mallory Stout (Trinity, Texas) combined for two hits, a walk, and a run scored.

The Ladies will face Trinity (8-6, 4-4 SCAC) next weekend in San Antonio and then return home to face Texas Lutheran in a four-game series April 16-17.
