Ladies Drop Pair Of SCAC Matches On Friday

The Ladies will face Texas Lutheran on Saturday in their final match of the weekend.

Seguin, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team dropped a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Friday in a crossover hosted by the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs at Tostengard Activity Center.

The Ladies (6-12, 0-7 SCAC) fell 3-1 to the University of St. Thomas (11-6, 5-2 SCAC) in its opening match of the day and then lost 3-0 to Southwestern University (7-8, 2-5 SCAC) in their second match.

Match one recap: St. Thomas 3 Centenary 1:

The Celts won set one by a score of 25-17 and took set two 25-9, but the Ladies stayed alive with a 25-22 win in set three. UST then clinched the match with a 25-19 win in set four.

Centenary finished with 59 digs, 38 kills, 35 assists, seven service aces, and two solo blocks while St. Thomas tallied 70 digs, 60 kills, 50 assists, eight aces, and a solo block. The Ladies' best offensive set was the third when they hit .295 with just two errors in 44 total attacks and 15 kills.

Ladies' Statistical Leaders:

Aces: Sophomore S Meadow Smith (Mansfield, Texas) – 3

Blocks: Freshman MB Bailee Henderson (Monroe, La.) and junior RS Jaylin St. Martin (New Orleans, La.) – 1 each

Assists: Smith – 28

Digs: Junior OH/DS Kiara Liedy (Sugar Land, Texas) – 12

Kills: St. Martin – 12

Junior MB Elizabeth Canady (League City, Texas) had a solid match with 10 kills, two digs, an ace, and an assist. Sophomore DS/L Daly Nagot (Benton, La.) tallied seven digs, a kill, and two aces, and a pair of assists. Senior MB/OH Robin Lemelle (Liberty, Texas) finished with 10 digs, eight kills, and one assist.

Smith added 11 digs and a pair of kills, St. Martin had 10 digs and one ace, and Liedy had three assists. Freshman RS/S Victoria Larson (Royse City, Texas) had two digs and two kills and freshman OH/DS Mackenzie Haley (Orange, Texas) had a pair of digs and a kill. Freshman S/DS Hannah Dimmel (Navasota, Texas) added three digs and freshman MB/OH Reign McArthur (Midlothian, Texas) had a dig and a kill.

Match two recap: Southwestern 3 Centenary 0:

The Pirates took the first set, 25-19, set two by a score of 25-16, and closed out the match in set three, 25-12.

Centenary finished with 45 digs, 26 kills, 20 assists, three aces, and two blocks. Southwestern tallied 64 digs, 43 kills, 32 assists, five aces, and three blocks. The Ladies' best offensive set was the first when they finished with only four errors and 12 kills in 39 total attacks.

Aces: Canady, Nagot, and Smith – 1 each

Blocks: Henderson and St. Martin – 1 each

Assists: Smith – 17

Digs: Liedy – 13

Kills: St. Martin – 11

Lemelle added nine digs and three kills, Henderson finished with five kills and a block, and McArthur recorded a dig and a kill. Canady also had three kills, two digs, and one assist. Nagot had six digs, Smith added eight digs and three kills, and Liedy also had a pair of assists.

Centenary will face the host Bulldogs (14-4, 5-1 SCAC) on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. in its final match of the weekend.
