Natchitoches, La. – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 91-50 to the Northwestern State University Lady Demons on Tuesday evening in an exhibition contest at Prather Coliseum.
The Ladies opened their regular season with a thrilling 69-64 come-from-behind victory over LeTourneau in a non-conference contest last Friday night at home. Tuesday's game was the Lady Demons' season opener as they improved to 1-0. The teams were meeting for the first time since 2018.
Northwestern State led 21-12 after one quarter of play and then outscored the Ladies 27-9 to take a 48-21 halftime lead. Centenary did outscore the Lady Demons, 16-12, in the fourth quarter. Three Ladies scored in double figures, led by 13 from junior guard Destini Powell (Minden, La.). She made 5-10 shots from the field and a pair of three-point baskets. She also grabbed five rebounds and added an assist and a steal.
Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) and sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) each scored 10 points. Jones was 3-11 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds and had an assist in 30 minutes. Tremie played 33 minutes and was 4-14 overall and made a pair of treys with two rebounds and one assist. Senior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) added seven points in 36 minutes and posted five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
The Ladies' bench contributed nine points led by four from freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.). She played 10 minutes and was 2-3 from the field with three rebounds while junior forward Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) grabbed four board and scored two points in 23 minutes.
Centenary shot 32.1 % (17-53) from the floor for the game, grabbed 33 rebounds, and had nine assists. The Lady Demons shot 39 % overall and collected 63 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals, and five blocks. The Ladies turned the ball over 20 times and Northwestern State gave it away 13 times. Four Lady Demons scored in double figures led by Candice Parramore's 16.
The Ladies are now back at home for a pair of regular-season games versus Louisiana Christian University (formerly Louisiana College) and Hendrix this weekend, on Friday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. respectively.
