Ladies Fall At Trinity On Saturday, 84-48

San Antonio, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team fell 84-48 to the Trinity University Tigers on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Ron & Genie Calgaard Gymnasium.

The Ladies (3-17, 1-11 SCAC) went 0-2 this weekend after a 75-64 loss at Schreiner on Friday in Kerrville, Texas and have now lost 11 games in a row. The Tigers improved to 17-2 and 10-0 in SCAC play. Centenary was down just two points, 34-32, at the half but then the Tigers ran away from the Maroon and White after the break, finishing with a 50-16 advantage to cruise to the home win.

Junior G Destini Powell (Minden, La.) led the Ladies with 17 points off the bench in 33 minutes on 7-23 shooting overall and had nine rebounds. Powell scored 18 in Friday's loss at Schreiner and has now reached double figures an impressive 14 times this season and has done so in 13 of her last 15 games. She was 3-6 from beyond the arc and had an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal.

Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored 11 on 4-14 shooting in 36 minutes. She was 3-9 from three-point range with eight rebounds and an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal. Tremie, who scored 12 against Schreiner, reached double figures for the 11th time this season. 

Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) and freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) each scored six points as Jones had 11 rebounds in 30 minutes on 2-12 shooting and went 2-4 from the free throw line. She added an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal. Drumgo played 16 minutes and was 3-6 shooting overall and had six rebounds and an assist. Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) played 31 minutes and matched Jones with a team-high 11 rebounds which also broke her previous season high of 10 set on Friday at Schreiner. Jones was 2-7 from the floor and made one trey with a pair of assists.

Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) scored three points in 24 minutes on 1-4 shooting and hit one trey. She had an assist, a rebound, and a steal. Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) played 10 minutes and had an assist but was held scoreless and senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) also did not score in 20 minutes but grabbed four rebounds.

Five Trinity players finished in double figures, led by Hailey Coleman's 17 points. Ashlyn Milton scored 14, Kelly Simmons added 12, and Mollee Priddy and Maggie Shipley each scored 11. Simmons was the top rebounder for the Tigers with nine followed by Coleman's eight.

Centenary shot 27.5 % (19-69) overall from the floor and only shot four free throws all afternoon, making two. The Ladies shot well from beyond the arc though, making 8-19 for 42.1 % with Powell and Tremie combining for six. Trinity shot 40.2 % (33-82), made 10-34 attempts from three-point range for 29.4 %, and finished 8-15 (53.3 %) from the free throw line.

The Ladies won the rebounding battle, 56-49, and finished with a season high after previously grabbing a season-best 55 on Friday. Centenary had 29 turnovers, eight assists, four steals, and three blocked shots. Trinity turned the ball over just eight times and had 25 assists, 10 steals, and blocked one shot.

Centenary returns home next weekend for its final two regular-season games in the Gold Dome, on Friday versus Colorado College and on Sunday against St. Thomas on Senior Day.
