Ladies Set To Face Ozarks On Saturday Afternoon

Clarksville, Ark. - The Centenary women's basketball team will face the University of the Ozarks Eagles in a non-conference contest set for 1 p.m. on Saturday inside Mabee Gymnasium.

The Ladies (1-4) return to regular-season play after a pair of road exhibition contests earlier this week. Centenary fell at ULM in Monroe 70-36 on Monday and 91-53 to McNeese on Wednesday in Lake Charles.

The Eagles (3-2) lost an exhibition on Tuesday at Arkansas State, 95-49, and will be playing their first home game of the season on Saturday. The Eagles and Ladies will meet for he first time since the 2016-17 season with Ozarks having won five of the previous six meetings.

The Ladies were led in scoring on Wednesday at McNeese by junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) with 12 points in 34 minutes. She shot 5-17 overall from the floor, 2-4 from the free throw line, grabbed four rebounds, and had three steals with a pair of assists and one blocked shot.

Centenary shot 29.7 % overall, went 3-11 from beyond the arc, and was 12-23 from the free throw line. The Ladies turned the ball over 18 times while the Cowgirls gave it up 19 times.

Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored nine points for the second-straight game as she went 3-8 from three-point range and had one rebound and one steal in 37 minutes of action. Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) also scored nine in 30 minutes. She was 3-8 overall, 3-4 from the free throw line, and had a team-high nine rebounds. She also recorded three steals and had one blocked shot. Her nine points and nine rebounds are season bests for the rookie.

Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) had nine points of her own in 24 minutes, shooting 3-11 from the floor and 3-4 from the free throw line. She had six rebounds with an assist. Junior Destini Powell (Minden, La.) played 20 minutes and scored three points, had three assists, and grabbed two rebounds. Senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored six in 25 minutes and had two steals with an assist and a rebound.

Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) scored two points in 12 minutes off the bench with a pair of rebounds. Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) played eight minutes and finished with one point and two rebounds. Freshman F Katelyn Simon (Lafayette, La.) scored two points with two rebounds and one assists in six minutes. Centenary finished with nine assists, nine steals, and a pair of blocked shots.

Jones leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.8 PPG and is third in rebounding at 4.6 per game. She is also leading the team in shooting percentage at 51.1 % overall from the floor. Tremie is second at 12.4 PPG and averages 5.0 rebounds per game, second on the team. Mayberry is the leading rebounder, averaging 6.5/game and averages 3.8 PPG. Leday averages 6.6 PPG and Powell is averaging 6.2.

Centenary currently ranks second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in both scoring defense (61.0 PPG) and field goal percentage defense (.336). The Ladies are also fourth in three-point FG % defense (.234) and rank fourth in steals with 51 (10.2/game).

Jones ranks fifth in the SCAC in FG % and is sixth in scoring while Tremie is eight in scoring. Mayberry is tied for 16th in rebounding and Tremie ranks 18th. Leday is 11th in assists and she and Jones are tied for third in the conference in steals. Bagwell is tied for 14th in free throw % at .714 and Alana Jones and Tremie are tied for 12th in steals. Tremie and Powell are currently seventh and 13th respectively in three-point FG % and sixth and 11th in three-point field goals made.

Jazzmyn Jones is also 14th in both blocked shots and offensive rebounds while Powell is ninth in defensive rebounds and Mayberry and Tremie are 11th and 15th in the category. Tremie is second in minutes played, averaging 36.4/game.

The Maroon and White have held four of their five opponents under 65 points, as only Louisiana Christian University has topped 70, in a 71-56 at the Gold Dome on Nov. 12.

The Ladies complete their weekend on Sunday with another non-conference game at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. at 1 p.m.
