Ladies Fall To Colorado College On Friday Night At Home, 70-54

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team battled hard against the Colorado College Tigers on Friday night, leading after one quarter and only trailed by three at halftime, but ended up falling short, 70-54 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (3-18, 1-12 SCAC) were looking to snap an 11-game losing streak but the visiting Tigers (12-11, 9-5 SCAC) were just too much. Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) led the Ladies with a career-high 13 points and sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) added 10. Three Colorado College players scored in double figures and Tigers' junior G Anna Fanelli broke the Colorado College and SCAC records for assists in a single season on Friday night, dishing out a game-high 14.

Centenary shot just 26.6 % (17-64) from the floor for the game and 5-23 (21.7 %) from beyond the arc. The Tigers also struggled, shooting just 34.3 % (24-70) and made just 7-26 attempts from three-point range for 26.9 %. Colorado College finished 15-23 from the free throw line for 65.2 % while Centenary was solid at the line, making 15-18 attempts for 83.3 %. The Ladies have now shot 80 % or better from the free throw line three times this season and interestingly their season-best mark was 86.4 % (19-22) on Jan. 7 at Colorado College.

The Ladies held a 15-14 edge after one quarter and then the Tigers finished the second quarter with a 19-15 advantage for a 33-30 lead at the break. CC then outscored Centenary 37-24 after halftime to secure the win. The Tigers scored 22 to the Ladies' 15 in the third period and outscored the Maroon and White 15-9 in the final 10 minutes. The Tigers won the rebounding battle, 59-39 and tallied 15 assists on their 24 made baskets. CC had three steals and three blocked shots and turned the ball over 10 times. The Ladies finished with seven assists, eight steals, and blocked four shots. Centenary also took care of the ball, committing a season-low six turnovers.

Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) scored nine points in a season-high 37 minutes and grabbed seven rebounds. She finished a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, had an assist, and hit one trey. Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) added eight points and six boards in 20 minutes off the bench. She was 4-12 overall from the floor and had two steals, one assist, and one blocked shot.

Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) scored six points and grabbed one rebound in 24 minutes on 3-6 shooting. She had three steals and two assists and senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in 32 minutes while scoring five points and finishing 5-6 at the free throw line. She added a pair of steals and an assist. Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) chipped in three points and four rebounds in 11 minutes.

Leday scored her career-best 13 points in 32 minutes on 5-13 shooting and made a pair of 3-point baskets. She was 1-2 at the free throw line, grabbed four rebounds, and had an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal. She reached double figures for the fourth time this season. Tremie recorded her 12th double-digit scoring performance of the season and played 38 minutes, going 3-8 from the floor, 2-2 from the free throw line, and hit a pair of 3-pointers. She grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots, and had an assist.

The Ladies will honor their lone senior, Mayberry, in a pregame Senior Day ceremony on Sunday prior to their 2 p.m. contest versus the St. Thomas Celts (6-13, 4-9 SCAC) as Centenary plays its final regular-season home game. The Celts won the first matchup between the two this season, 56-44 back on Jan. 9 in Houston.
