Ladies To Finish Regular Season This Weekend On Road

Georgetown, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team will play its final two games of the regular season this weekend in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play beginning with a matchup with the Southwestern University Pirates on Friday set for 7:30 p.m. at the Robertson Center.

The Ladies (4-18, 2-12 SCAC) snapped their 12-game losing streak on Sunday with a 61-53 victory over St. Thomas in the Gold Dome on Senior Day. Centenary won for the second time at home this season and won its third-straight Senior Day game. Southwestern (9-13, 5-9 SCAC) enters Friday's game having lost four in a row. The teams met last month in Shreveport as the Pirates recorded a 76-63 win.

Three Ladies scored in double figures in the win over the Celts, led by a career-high 15 points from freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport). Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored 13 and Centenary's lone senior, G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored 11 in her final home game.

Jones added seven rebounds to her season-best 15 points in 30 minutes. She went 7-9 from the free throw line with a pair of steals. Tremie played 37 minutes and was 4-12 from the floor and went 4-4 from the free throw line. She made one trey and grabbed eight rebounds with two steals and an assist.

Mayberry played 38 minutes and pulled down eight boards and had four steals in a solid performance in the final appearance on her home court. She went 2-4 from the free throw line and made 4-9 shots overall.

Centenary shot 37.9 % (22-58) overall from the floor for the game and was strong at the free throw line, making 15-19 attempts (78.9 %). The Ladies won the rebounding battle, 40-34, and forced 17 turnovers. Centenary recorded 11 steals, five assists, and blocked two shots.

Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) and junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) each scored eight points off the bench. Drumgo added two rebounds and a pair of steals in 20 minutes. Jones played 24 minutes and grabbed five rebounds and went 2-2 from the free throw line. Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) scored two points with a rebound and an assist in 26 minutes and junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) had six rebounds, four points, a blocked shots, and a steal in 20 minutes.

Tremie is currently 11th in the league in scoring averaging 11.5 PPG and 10th in rebounding (7.0/game). She also ranks sixth in 3-point FG made and is 12th in 3-point FG %. Tremie also ranks eighth in defensive rebounds and is the conference leader in minutes played, averaging 36.9/game. Tremie has played all 40 minutes in a game six times this season, four in conference play. She has reached double figures 13 times this season, eight times in league play, and done so in five-straight games as she is averaging 13.4 PPG over those five contests. Tremie has topped 20 points times three this season highlighted by a career-high 25 versus Trinity on Dec. 19 and has recorded a pair of double-doubles.

Jones is 14th in scoring (10.4 PPG) and 18th in rebounding (5.3/game). She ranks sixth in the conference in FG percentage (45.5 %), 11th in offensive rebounds, and 15th in blocked shots. She has scored in double figures 11 times this season and five times in conference play. Junior G Destini Powell (Minden, La.) did not play last weekend but is still the team leader in both scoring (13.6 PPG) and rebounding (7.6/game) and ranks fifth in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounding. Powell has now reached double figures an impressive 14 times this season and has done so in 13 of her last 15 games. She scored 18 last Friday at Schreiner and followed that up with a 17-point performance on Sunday against Trinity. She ranks second in the league in defensive rebounds and is also 10th in free throw % and tied for ninth in 3-point FGs made.

Southwestern only has one player, Lauren Fulenwider (13.0 PPG) averaging double figures to rank seventh in the SCAC, but three players average 8.8 PPG or more and Princess Roberts is the top rebounder in the conference, grabbing 10.0 boards per game. In the previous meeting between the teams back on Jan. 12, Fulenwider erupted for 32 points and a conference single-game record ten 3-point baskets while Roberts recorded a double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Ladies will wrap up their regular season on Saturday as they face the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in Seguin, Texas at 4 p.m.
