
Ladies To Face St. Thomas On Senior Day

The Ladies (3-18, 1-12 SCAC) will honor their lone senior, G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.), prior to the game against the Celts (6-13, 4-9 SCAC). Centenary aims to snap a 12-game losing streak and avenge an earlier loss to St. Thomas back on Jan. 9 in Houston, 56-44. St. Thomas is 2-5 on the road this season.
Centenary hung tough with Colorado College on Friday night before falling 70-54. The Ladies only trailed 33-30 at halftime and ended the game with a season-low six turnovers and shot 83.3 % (15-18) from the free throw line. St. Thomas fell 70-51 at Austin College on Friday and are just 3-7 in its last 10 games. Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) led the Ladies with a career-high 13 points on Friday and sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) added 10.
Centenary shot just 26.6 % (17-64) from the floor for the game and 5-23 (21.7 %) from beyond the arc. The Ladies held a 15-14 edge after one quarter and then the Tigers finished the second quarter with a 19-15 advantage for a 33-30 lead at the break. CC then outscored Centenary 37-24 after halftime to secure the win. The Tigers scored 22 to the Ladies' 15 in the third period and outscored the Maroon and White 15-9 in the final 10 minutes. The Tigers won the rebounding battle, 59-39 and tallied 15 assists on their 24 made baskets. CC had three steals and three blocked shots and turned the ball over 10 times. The Ladies finished with seven assists, eight steals, and blocked four shots.
Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) scored nine points in a season-high 37 minutes and grabbed seven rebounds. She finished a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, had an assist, and hit one trey. Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) added eight points and six boards in 20 minutes off the bench. She was 4-12 overall from the floor and had two steals, one assist, and one blocked shot.
Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) scored six points and grabbed one rebound in 24 minutes on 3-6 shooting. She had three steals and two assists and Mayberry grabbed a game-high eight rebounds in 32 minutes while scoring five points and finishing 5-6 at the free throw line. She added a pair of steals and an assist. Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) chipped in three points and four rebounds in 11 minutes.
Leday scored her career-best 13 points in 32 minutes on 5-13 shooting and made a pair of 3-point baskets. She was 1-2 at the free throw line, grabbed four rebounds, and had an assist, a blocked shot, and a steal. She reached double figures for the fourth time this season. Tremie recorded her 12th double-digit scoring performance of the season and played 38 minutes, going 3-8 from the floor, 2-2 from the free throw line, and hit a pair of 3-pointers. She grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots, and had an assist.
The Ladies enter Sunday's play with three players averaging double digits this season – Jones, Tremie, and junior G Destini Powell (Minden, La.) while the Celts have two in junior F Olivia Anga (12.8 PPG) and sophomore G Micayla Hamilton (11.6 PPG). Anga is the Celts' top rebounder this season, averaging 7.7/game. Junior F Jade Evans is next at 6.1/game. Powell (7.6) and Tremie (7.0) are Centenary's top two rebounders this season.
The Ladies are on the road next weekend to wrap up the regular season with games at Southwestern (Feb. 18) and Texas Lutheran (Feb. 19).
