Ladies Fall In Exhibition On Wednesday At McNeese

Lake Charles, La. - The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 91-53 decision on Wednesday evening to the McNeese Cowgirls in an exhibition contest at Burton Coliseum.

The Ladies, who fell 70-36 to the ULM Warhawks on Monday evening in another exhibition game in Monroe, were led in scoring by junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) with 12 points in 34 minutes. She shot 5-17 overall from the floor, 2-4 from the free throw line, grabbed four rebounds, and had three steals with a pair of assists and one blocked shot.

Three McNeese players reached double figures, with Kaili Chamberlin leading the way with 29 points in 25 minutes. She was 7-14 from three-point range, 10-20 overall from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds. Cristina Gil and Emerson Taylor each scored 10.

McNeese shot 39 % from the floor for the game and made 11 three-point baskets. Cowgirls were an impressive 16-19 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Ladies, 65-34. Centenary shot 29.7 % overall, went 3-11 from beyond the arc, and was 12-23 from the free throw line. The Ladies turned the ball over 18 times while the Cowgirls gave it up 19 times.

Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored nine points for the second-straight game as she went 3-8 from three-point range and had one rebound and one steal in 37 minutes of action. Freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) also scored nine in 30 minutes. She was 3-8 overall, 3-4 from the free throw line, and had a team-high nine rebounds. She also recorded three steals and had one blocked shot. Her nine points and nine rebounds are season bests for the rookie.

Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) had nine points of her own in 24 minutes, shooting 3-11 from the floor and 3-4 from the free throw line. She had six rebounds with an assist. Junior Destini Powell (Minden, La.) played 20 minutes and scored three points, had three assists, and grabbed two rebounds. Senior G Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) scored six in 25 minutes and had two steals with an assist and a rebound.

Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) scored two points in 12 minutes off the bench with a pair of rebounds. Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) played eight minutes and finished with one point and two rebounds. Freshman F Katelyn Simon (Lafayette, La.) scored two points with two rebounds and one assists in six minutes. Centenary finished with nine assists, nine steals, and a pair of blocked shots. McNeese had 21 assists on its 32 made baskets with 11 steals and six blocks.

The Cowgirls led 20-6 after the first quarter but the Ladies played much better in the second quarter, scoring 17 points to 25 for McNeese as the home team led 45-23 at halftime. The Cowgirls outscored the Ladies 19-11 in the third period and closed out the win with a 27-19 advantage in the fourth.

McNeese scored 23 points off the Ladies' 18 turnovers while Centenary scored 21 off of McNeese's 19 miscues. The Cowgirls scored 30 points in the pain while the Ladies had 22.

The Ladies remain on the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference games, on Saturday at Ozarks (Ark.) at 1 p.m. and on Sunday at Hendrix College also at 1 p.m.
