Ladies Fall At Millsaps, 50-36

Jackson, Miss. – The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 50-36 decision to the Millsaps Majors on Tuesday evening in a non-conference contest at the Hangar Dome.

The Ladies fell to 1-3 with the loss while the Majors won for the first time this season to improve to 1-3. Centenary and Millsaps were meeting for the first time since Nov. 19, 2019 when the Majors recorded a 62-52 win at the Gold Dome.

Centenary, which opened its season with a 69-64 comeback win over LeTourneau at home on Nov. 5, has lost three-straight games as the Maroon and White dropped a pair of home games last weekend, 71-56 to Louisiana Christian University and 58-52 against Hendrix College.

Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) scored a season-high 11 points to lead the Ladies in scoring. She played 33 minutes and made 5-7 field goal attempts and grabbed three rebounds. She added a pair of steals and had one assist as she reached double figures for the second time this season. Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.) also scored a season-high number of points and joined Leday in double figures as she posted 10 points on 3-7 shooting in 18 minutes. Drumgo added four rebounds, a blocked shot, and went 4-6 from the free throw line.

Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) chipped in eight points in a team-high eight rebounds in 30 minutes. She shot 3-12 from the floor and had five steals, two blocks, and an assist. Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.), freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport), and senior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) each scored two points and Tremie added four rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a blocked shot. Mayberry grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot and Jones had three rebounds.

The Ladies shot 25 % overall (14-56) for the game from the field but were on target in the second quarter, making 6-14 (42.9%) for their best shooting effort in a period on the night. Centenary collected 30 rebounds and tallied 12 steals, five blocks, and three assists. Millsaps did not fair much better offensively, shooting just 30.2 % (16-53) overall but helped itself at the free throw line, making 14-18 attempts while the Ladies struggled, making only 7 of 14.

The game featured four lead changes and was tied five times. Each team scored 20 points in the paint and second-chance points were nearly even as the Majors scored 12 to the Ladies' eight. Centenary turned the ball over 17 times and the Majors gave it up 21 times. Millsaps scored 19 points off of turnovers while the Ladies notched 14.

Millsaps received 15 points from its bench and the Ladies' reserves contributed 12. The Majors had two players reach double figures, as Briasha King scored 13 and Helena Roe scored 10. Andrea Rayford grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Roe added nine boards in 29 minutes with an assist, a block, and a steal. Six Majors recorded at least four rebounds as Millsaps outrebounded the Ladies by 15 (45-30).

The Majors held a slight edge after a low-scoring first quarter, 9-7, and then each team scored 15 points apiece in the second period as Millsaps took a 24-22 lead to the halftime locker room. The Majors outscored the Ladies 11-8 in the third quarter and then finished off the win with a 15-6 margin in the final period.
