The Ladies (3-15, 1-9 SCAC) and Mountaineers (9-10, 6-4 SCAC) will meet for the second time in six days after Schreiner recorded a 78-68 win over the Ladies on Sunday at the Gold Dome. Centenary enters this weekend's action aiming to snap a nine-game losing streak. The Ladies are 2-6 on the road this season with wins at Birmingham-Southern 89-82 on Dec. 4 and a 62-59 win over Dallas in their conference opener on Dec. 9.
Centenary battled the Mountaineers the entire game and led 33-32 at halftime though, but Schreiner took control of the game after the break, going on a 19-8 run to open up a double-digit lead and finished the quarter with a 21-10 advantage for a 53-43 lead headed to the final period. The teams finished even (25-25) in the fourth quarter, but the third-quarter advantage proved too much for the Ladies to overcome.
The Ladies shot 38.3 % (23-60) for the game from the floor, 8-17 (47.1 %) from beyond the arc, and 14-18 (77.8 %) from the free throw line. Schreiner shot 41.1 % (30-73) overall from the floor, went 5-14 (35.7 %) from three-point range, and 13-19 (68.4 %) from the line. Centenary finished with an advantage (48-38) in rebounding and recorded 14 assists, eight blocked shots, and had six steals. Schreiner had 13 steals, 11 assists, and blocked a pair of shots. The Mountaineers only turned the ball over nine times and forced 23 Ladies' turnovers.
Schreiner made a living in the paint, finishing with a decisive 46-16 advantage and ended with a 26-3 edge in points off of turnovers. The Ladies ended with a slight edge (9-8) in second-chance points and the Mountaineers and Ladies each benefited from their benches, with Schreiner receiving 44 bench points to 32 for Centenary.
Junior G Destini Powell (Minden, La.) led the Ladies with a game-high 25 points on 7-14 shooting in 29 minutes on Sunday and added 11 rebounds for her second-straight double-double and third of the season. Powell is the Ladies' top scorer on the season averaging 13.1 points per game and has now reached double figures 12 times this season and has done so in 11 of her last 13 games. She currently ranks sixth in the conference in scoring. Powell was 4-6 from beyond the arc, 7-8 from the free throw line, and had an assist and a blocked shot.
Sophomore guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) scored 21 points in 38 minutes as she made 7-15 shots overall, went 3-6 from three-point range, and was a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. She had for rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots, and a steal. She has scored in double figures nine times this season and has now topped 20 points four times. She is second on the team in scoring and ranks 11th in the league, averaging 11.4 PPG. Junior F Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) played 15 minutes and scored five points to go with three rebounds, two blocked shots, an assist, and a steal. She was 2-5 overall from the floor and 1-2 from the free throw line. Jones is third on the Ladies and 13th in the SCAC in scoring this season, averaging 10.8 PPG.
Powell, Tremie, and Jones are all also in the top 20 in the conference in rebounding as Powell leads the team with 7.8 board per game to rank sixth, Tremie is 11th (6.9/game), and Jones (5.0) is 20th. Jones ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage (.472), Powell is 13th in free throw percentage (67.5 %), and Jones ranks 13th in offensive rebounds and 14th in blocked shots. Tremie is seventh in three-point FG's made, ninth in defensive rebounds, and 10th in three-point FG %. Powell is ninth in three-point FG's made. Tremie is the conference leader in minutes played averaging 37.1 minutes per game and has played all 40 minutes in a game six times this season including four times in conference play.
Junior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) had a solid game with eight points and nine boards in 18 minutes. She was 3-10 shooting overall and went 2-4 from the free throw line. She had one blocked shot and one steal. Freshman G Mary Leday (Opelousas, La.) scored five points and grabbed four rebounds in 27 minutes on 2-4 shooting overall and made one trey. She also tallied three assists. Freshman G Dymon Drumgo (Alexandria, La.), and freshman G Alana Jones (Shreveport) each scored two points. Drumgo had three rebounds and an assist in 17 minutes and Jones played 33 minutes and had four assists, two rebounds, and blocked two shots.
The Ladies will complete the weekend with another conference contest at Trinity in San Antonio on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m.
