Houston - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 2-1 on Friday night to the University of St. Thomas Celts in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Houston Sports Park.

The Ladies are now 0-5-1 and 0-2 in SCAC play while the Celts improved to 3-1-1 and 2-0 SCAC. The Celts swept the season series as they also edged the Ladies 2-1 back on Sept. 3 in Shreveport.

Centenary was coming off of a hard-fought 0-0 tie with the Belhaven University Blazers in a non-conference contest on Tuesday in Jackson, Miss. while St. Thomas was also fresh off of a scoreless tie - last Saturday at home versus McMurry.

St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead in Friday's match as Brooke Le found the net for the first time this season off an assist from Karson Funderburk just over three and a half minutes into action. Senior D Haleigh Gangloff (Pearland, Texas) tied the match in the 24th minute as she scored her first career goal, to make it a 1-1 game. The goal came off of a beautiful corner kick from senior MF/D Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) who tallied her team-leading second assist of the season and seventh of her career. 

The score was tied at halftime and then the Celts scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 52nd minute as Emily McCoy scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Mariana Alvarez Garcia.

St. Thomas finished the match with a decisive advantage in shots (23-4) with six coming on goal. The Celts took six corner kicks while the Ladies took four and 10 combined fouls were called but only one cards was issues in the match. Sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves while Celts' GK Sophia Escontrias also went the distance and made three saves.

Centenary is back home on Sunday to face LeTourneau University in a non-conference match set for 5 p.m. at Mayo Field.
