The Ladies (0-7-1) seek their first win of the season on Friday after some recent close calls. Centenary battled the Alcorn State University Braves before falling 3-1 on Wednesday evening in a non-conference match at home. The Ladies went toe to toe with the division 1 Braves and were trailing just 2-1 until Alcorn added a goal in the final minute to extend its lead and secure the victory.
Schreiner is 1-3 on the season, has lost three-straight matches, and is 0-2 at home. The Ladies and Mountaineers played once last season, a match that ended in a 1-1 tie in double overtime in Kerrville. Schreiner leads the all-time series 9-8-3, one which has been played since 2011.
Senior F Daisy Acosta (Deer Park, Texas) scored at the 62 -minute mark off an assist from senior F Avery Gilbert (League City, Texas) following a corner kick on Wednesday night, her first goal of the season and fourth of her career. Sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) played the first half and allowed one goal and made one save.
Junior GK Karlie Delhommer (St. Amant, La.) replaced her and played the second half, allowing two goals and recording a save. Alcorn finished with a 16-11 edge in shots and took five shots on goal to three for the Ladies. The Braves were whistled for eight fouls and one yellow card while the Ladies were called for just five fouls and no cards. Each team took five corner kicks.
Junior D Alexa Hinojosa (Pasadena, Texas) is the team leader in both goals (2) and points (4) this season while senior MF/D Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) is the leader in assists with two. senior F Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) needs just one more assist to become the all-time leader in the division III era (2011-present) in the category.
The Ladies complete the weekend with a match at Trinity in San Antonio on Sunday set for Noon.
