Ladies Fall At TLU On Friday, 4-2

Seguin, Texas - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 4-2 to the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs on Friday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Gustafson Field.

The Ladies (2-12-1, 2-7 SCAC) had their two-game winning streak snapped while the Bulldogs improved to 7-6-1 overall and 7-2 in conference play. Centenary defeated both Austin College and Dallas at home last weekend. TLU upped its home record to 5-3-1 and swept the season series from the Ladies after recording a 2-0 win over the Ladies at Mayo Field on Sept. 30

Senior MF/D Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) scored a goal for the third-straight match as she opened the scoring in the 12th minute for a 1-0 Centenary lead. She now has a team-leading three on the season and 12 in her career as she has moved into a tie for fifth place in the division III era (2011-present).

Ana Parra tied the match with an unassisted goal in the 19th minute and she then assisted Elaina Barrientes in the 21st minute for a 2-1 TLU lead which the Bulldogs took into halftime. Senior F Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) tied the match at 2-2 at the 50:17 mark, recording her second goal this season and ninth of her career.

Samantha Martinez gave the Bulldogs the lead at the 71:25 mark and just over five minutes later Gabriela Varela connected on a penalty kick to widen the TLU lead to 4-2. The Bulldogs finished with a 22-7 edge in shots and took six corner kicks to two for the Ladies. Each team was whistled for 10 fouls and five yellow cards were issued. Seven Ladies played all 90 minutes while five Bulldogs went the distance.

Sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) played all 90 minutes and made seven saves. Ersoff entered the match ranked third in the conference in saves this season and eighth in goals against average (GAA). She has now recorded five or more saves in a match five times and seven or more three times. The Bulldogs played a pair of goalies as Cahrleigh Phipps started and played the first half, allowing one goal and did not record a save and was relieved by Elena Rivera for the second half. Rivera allowed one goal and made three saves.

The Ladies wrap up the weekend with a match at Southwestern on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas.
