Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Friday night in a hard-fought Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mayo Field.

The Ladies are now 2-14-1 overall and 2-9 in conference play while the Mountaineers improved to 6-6-2 overall and 5-4-2 in league play. Schreiner now leads the all-time series, 10-8-3.

Ashley Esparza scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 16th minute, for an early 1-0 lead and the Schreiner defense made that score hold up in the shutout win. Schreiner junior GK Audrey Rivera pitched her seventh shutout of the season and made five saves in her 90 minutes of work. Centenary sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) matched Rivera with five saves and also played the whole match.

The Ladies took one more shot (11-10) than the Mountaineers, but could not find the net as they dropped to 2-8 at home this season and were shutout for the seventh time. Schreiner took three corner kicks to Centenary's one and the teams combined for 21 fouls – 14 whistled on the Ladies and seven on the visitors. Eight Ladies played all 90 minutes in the match and eight Mountaineers did the same.

The Ladies will face Trinity University on Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m. following the men's match on Senior Day. Nine seniors will be honored in a postgame ceremony, and one of those seniors - F Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) needs just one more assist to become the all-time leader in the division III era (2011-present) in the category.
