Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team came up short to the Southwestern University Pirates by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mayo Field.

The Ladies fell to 0-11-1 overall and 0-4 in SCAC play while the Pirates improved to 3-2-4 and 3-0-1 in the conference. Centenary was blanked 2-0 on Friday by Texas Lutheran at home as the Maroon and White are still in search of their first win of the season.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime and it was not until an unfortunate circumstance allowed the Pirates to take the lead in the 62nd minute. Southwestern's Laren Gradt sent a corner kick toward the Ladies' goal and it deflected off a Centenary player and then sophomore GK Madison Ersoff (Shreveport, La.) into the net for an own goal and a 1-0 Southwestern lead. The Pirates added a late insurance score in the 85th minute as Yamila Lara scored off an assist from Samantha Hazen.

Ersoff played all 90 minutes and matched her career-high of nine saves which she originally set on Sept. 25 at Trinity. Southwestern GK Johnna Cambell also went the distance and recorded three saves. Southwestern out-shot Centenary 21-7 and took 10 corner kicks to the Ladies' two. The Pirates were called for 11 fouls and the Ladies five but no cards were issued.

Centenary remains at home next weekend to face Austin College (Friday, Oct. 7 – 6 p.m.) and Dallas (Sunday, Oct. 9 – Noon).
