Irving, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team dropped a 69-51 decision to the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday evening in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Maher Center.

The Ladies (1-8, 0-2 SCAC) fell 68-55 at Austin College on Friday night in their conference opener. The Crusaders improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in SCAC play.

Dallas took a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and doubled up the Ladies 20-10 in the second period for a 37-19 halftime lead. The second half, though, was much closer as the Crusaders and Ladies each scored 32 points, but the 18-point halftime advantage was the difference.

Centenary shot just 21.6 % (16-74) from the floor for the game, 16.7 % (3-18) from beyond the arc, and 64 % (16-25) from the free throw line while Dallas was 25-58 from the floor for 43.1 %, 4-15 from beyond the arc for 26.7 % and 15-22 from the FT line (68.2 %). The Ladies outrebounded the Crusaders 51-44, grabbing a season-high 51, and had 29 on the defensive end along with 22 offensive boards.

The Ladies totaled 11 steals, three assists and three blocked shots while the Crusaders had four steals, 17 assists, and eight blocked shots. Dallas won the battle inside with 32 points in the paint compared to Centenary's 24, had a 17-3 advantage in fast break points, and 33-13 in bench points. The Ladies had 12 second-chance points to the Crusaders' five, and Dallas had seven points off of turnovers while Centenary had three.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) was the Ladies' leading scorer with 14 points and sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) joined her in double figures with 10. Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored eight, sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) had six, and Centenary received four points each from junior G Alana Jones (Shreveport, La.) and freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas). Sophomore G Lauren Castillo (Fort Worth, Texas) scored three points and sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) added two.

Five Crusaders reached double figures, led by 13 from Tessa Hastings. Maria Dicenta had 12, Kat Santos and Taylor Rawls each scored 11, and Caroline Croft had 10. Five other players combined for 12 points.

Plumber played 29 minutes and was 6-8 at the FT line with six rebounds and a steal, Barrow was 4-8 from the floor, 1-2 from beyond the arc, and 1-2 at the FT line in her 38 minutes with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Davis had a pair of rebounds and one trey in her 28 minutes, Powell played 26 minutes and was 3-6 at the FT line with two rebounds and a steal, and Stokes grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and blocked one shot in 13 minutes. Jones had six boards, three steals, and a block in 28 minutes and Dougharty played 15 minutes and was 2-3 at the FT line with three rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot.

Freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas) played eight minutes and was held scoreless but she had three rebounds and a pair of steals and freshman F Yadneli Molina (Vinton, La.) also did not score but finished with a rebound in her one minute of action. Castillo played 14 minutes and had three rebounds to go with her three points.

The Ladies will be off for 10 days before returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 12 for a SCAC contest versus the University of St. Thomas in Houston set for 8 p.m.
