Ladies Set To Face Schreiner On Senior Night

Shreveport - The Centenary women's basketball team will finish the regular season at home this weekend with a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contests beginning with a matchup on Friday evening against the Schreiner University Mountaineers set for 7:30 p.m. inside the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (2-20, 1-13 SCAC) fell at Texas Lutheran and Southwestern on the road last weekend and have lost three games in a row since defeating St. Thomas at home back on Jan. 30 which snapped a 13-game losing streak. Schreiner enters Friday's action at 8-15 overall and 7-7 in league play. The Mountaineers are currently fourth in the conference standings and are battling for a berth in next weekend's SCAC Championship with both Dallas (7-8) and Austin College (7-8).

Centenary enters Friday's play averaging 53.4 PPG, 35.4 rebounds per game, and 7.7 assists/game. The Ladies shoot 29.8 % from the floor, 24.9 % from beyond the arc, and a strong 71.0 % from the free throw line to rank third in the conference and in the top 100 nationally in division III. The Ladies have shot 70 % or better from the FT line 14 times this season and 75 % or better eight times. Centenary has also held nine opponents to 70 points or less this season.

Schreiner averages 64.2 PPG, 36.7 rebounds/game, and 11.2 assists/game. The Mountaineers shoot 37.8 % from the floor, 30.2 % from 3-point range, and 74.1 % from the FT line – second in the conference and 31st nationally. Schreiner aims to improve upon its road record as the Mountaineers are just 1-10 away from home this season with their lone win coming at Southwestern in December. The Ladies are 1-7 at home this season. Schreiner won the first meeting between the teams in January in Kerrville, Texas by a score of 103-53.

The Mountaineers' leading scorer is junior G Demauria Miles (15.8 PPG) as she ranks third in the league. Sophomore F Madison Parham (6.2/game) is Schreiner's leading rebounder and is tied for fifth in the conference.

Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) is she Ladies' lone senior and will be honored in a pregame ceremony for Senor Night.

Ladies' Individual Season Statistical Leaders:

Scoring: Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) – 12.2 PPG

Rebounding: Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) – 6.5 RPG

Assists: Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) – 2.9/game

Blocks: Stokes – 1.4/game

Steals: Barrow – 1.5/game

Plumber reached double figures 14 times this season and is the conference's fifth-leading scorer. She played all 40 minutes last Sunday at Southwestern and was 5-17 from the floor, 2-5 from beyond the arc, and 4-5 at the FT line. She grabbed seven rebounds and added two assists and a steal.

Stokes joined her in double figures against the Pirates with 12 points in 31 minutes on 4-11 shooting. Stokes scored in double figures for the eighth time this season and was 4-5 from the FT line with a team and game-high eight rebounds and added a blocked shot. Barrow is currently sixth in the SCAC in scoring and has reached double figures 14 times.

Bagwell averages 5.6 PPG and 3.3 rebounds/game. She has scored at least seven points in a game six times with a season-high 14 on Nov. 18 at Southern Arkansas. 

Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) averages 7.2 PPG, 3.3 rebounds/game, 1.0 assists/game and 1.0 steals/game. She has played in 21 games with 20 starts and has reached double figures four times.

Freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas) played a season-high 37 minutes at Southwestern off the bench and scored two points and grabbed five rebounds with one steal.

The Ladies will complete their regular season on Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Trinity University Tigers.
