Short-Handed Ladies Fall At Home To Austin College

Shreveport- The Centenary women's basketball team could not keep pace with the Austin College 'Roos on Friday night in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest, falling 92-54, inside the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-16, 0-9 SCAC) fell behind 24-11 after the first quarter and were down 48-25 at halftime after the 'Roos (4-13, 3-6 SCAC) outscored them by the same margin in the second quarter. Austin College then outscored Centenary 29-18 in the third period and 15-11 in the fourth.

Centenary shot just 29.7 % (19-64) from the floor for the game while Austin College finished 48.5 % (32-66). The Ladies went 5-15 from beyond the arc for 33.3 % and a strong 11-14 from the free throw line for 78.6 %. The 'Roos were an impressive 51.7 % (15-29) from 3-point range and 76.5 % (13-17) from the FT line.

Austin College outrebounded Centenary 48-35 and forced the Ladies into 17 turnovers which the 'Roos turned into 20 points. Austin College committed 13 turnovers which Centenary scored nine points off of. The 'Roos edged the Ladies in points in the paint, 28-26, had 16 fast break points to the Ladies' 11, and held decisive advantages in both second-chance points (22-9) and bench points (25-3).

Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) led the Ladies with 18 points as she reached double figures for the 11th time this season. She played 27 minutes and finished 8-18 from the floor and 2-3 from beyond the arc with a game-high four steals, three rebounds, and two assists. Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) scored 13 points in 29 minutes, reaching double digits for the 10th time on the season and has done so in seven-consecutive games.

Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored nine, sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) had eight, and sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.), freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas), and senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) combined to score six points.

Lauren Traylor scored a game-high 19 points to lead four Austin College players in double figures. She played just 23 minutes but was 5-9 from the floor, 3-5 from beyond the arc, and 6-7 at the FT line with five rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a blocked shot. Lexi Martin was next with 16 points, Grace Moothart scored 15, and Amarys Cuellar scored 13. Trinity Williams scored seven off the bench, and seven others combined to score 22 points.

Stokes grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as she has grabbed double-digit rebounds three times this season. She was 2-2 at the FT line with three blocked shots in 33 minutes, Powell was 2-7 from the floor, 1-4 from beyond the arc, and 4-5 at the FT line in 26 minutes with three rebounds and an assist. Davis played 29 minutes and had two rebounds and one steal while Latson grabbed a team-high six rebounds in 20 minutes.

Centenary must regroup quickly as the Maroon and White face the University of Dallas Crusaders (10-8, 4-5 SCAC) on Saturday at 6 p.m. Dallas fell 52-50 at the buzzer to St. Thomas on Friday night in Houston.
