Shreveport - The Centenary women's basketball team fell 81-51 to the Schreiner University Mountaineers on Friday night and in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Senior Night at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (2-21, 1-14 SCAC) will finish their season on Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) against the Trinity University Tigers. Schreiner improved to 9-15 and 8-7 in SCAC play with the win.

Centenary shot 29.6 % (16-54) from the floor overall, 43.8 % (7-16) from beyond the arc, and as it normally does, a strong 70.6 % (12-17) from the free throw line. Schreiner shot the ball well, finishing 47.6 % (30-63) from the floor, 46.2 % (12-26) from 3-point range, and 90 % (9-10) from the FT line. The Mountaineers scored 32 points in the paint to the Ladies' 16, they finished with a 26-12 advantage in points off of turnovers, 16-4 in fast break points, and 30-8 in bench points. The Ladies finished with a 9-8 edge in second-chance points.

Schreiner took a 22-10 lead after one quarter of play, then outscored Centenary 24-17 in the second for a 46-27 halftime lead. The Mountaineers then finished with a 20-14 edge in the third period and a 15-10 advantage in the fourth to secure the 30-point road win.

Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) scored a season-high 22 points and matched Schreiner's Demauria Miles' 22 as they led all scorers. Powell, who has now reached double figures five times this season, was 6-18 from the floor in 39 minutes, 3-7 from beyond the arc, and 7-8 at the FT line with two assists and two steals. Miles played 21 minutes and was 8-11 from the floor and 6-8 from beyond the arc with two rebounds, one assist, and a steal.

Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) was honored in a pregame ceremony as the Ladies' only senior and she proceeded to scored nine points as she went 3-5 from beyond the arc in 39 minutes with eight rebounds and a blocked shot. Bagwell made a season and career-high three treys on Friday and has made seven this season after not making a 3-point basket in her previous four seasons in four career attempts. She is 7-16 this season.

Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and scored nine points as she just missed a double-double. She played 24 minutes and was3-8 from the floor and 3-4 at the FT line with two blocked shots and a steal. Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) scored eight off the bench in 16 minutes as she was 3-3 from the floor, 1-1 from beyond the arc, and 1-1 at the FT line with three assists and two rebounds. Freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas) started her first-career game and played 34 minutes as she scored two points and grabbed five rebounds for the second-straight game. She was 1-4 from the floor with two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Freshman F Yadneli Molina (Vinton, La.) played 34 minutes and went 1-4 from the FT line with a season-best seven rebounds and had one assist.

Three other Schreiner players joined Miles in double figures as Tianna Murray scored 15 off the bench, Brie Sosa scored 12, and Skye Thomas had 11. Five others scored a combined 21 points.

Trinity, the Ladies' opponent on Sunday, defeated St. Thomas on the road on Friday night by a score of 90-79 and is currently atop of the conference standings at 19-5 overall and 14-1 in SCAC play.
