Ladies Set For Final Two Road Contests Of Regular Season

Seguin, Texas - The Centenary women's basketball team is on the road for the final time in the regular season this weekend beginning with a matchup versus the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs on Friday set for 7:30 p.m. inside  Memorial Gymnasium.

The Ladies (2-18, 1-11 SCAC) return to action after falling 79-54 to Colorado College last Friday on the road. The Bulldogs (17-5, 10-3 SCAC) are 9-2 at home this season and enter Friday's game winners of four games in a row.

Centenary snapped a 13-game losing streak with a thrilling 61-59 overtime win over the University of St. Thomas Celts at home on Jan. 30 as the Ladies won for the first time since defeating Hendrix College on Nov. 25. The Ladies grabbed a season-high 53 rebounds in the win over the Celts on Jan. 30, two more than their 51 at Dallas on Dec. 2.

TLU defeated the University of Dallas, 66-59, in its most recent game last Saturday in Irving, Texas. The Ladies fell at home to the Bulldogs, 80-56, in the first meeting between the teams last month.

Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) is the Ladies' leading scorer this season as she averages 12.2 PPG (fifth in the conference) and averages 3.1 assists per game, good for fourth in the league. Barrow has scored in double figures 14 times this season and has played 40 minutes in a game six times. She also averages 5.3 rebounds/game.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) is right behind Barrow as the conference's sixth-leading scorer averaging 11.8 PPG. She scored a career-high 29 points last Friday at Colorado College as she played all 40 minutes and was 8-26 from the floor, 3-11 from beyond the arc, and 10-14 from the FT line with for rebounds and a steal. Plumber reached double figures for the 12th time this season and topped 20 points for the second time as her previous career high was 23 points on Nov. 25 at Hendrix.

Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) averages 8.3 PPG and is third in the conference in rebounding, grabbing 6.6 boards per game. Stokes had a monster game for the Ladies in the win over St. Thomas as she tied her career high with 19 points and added a career-high 15 rebounds. She scored in double figures for the seventh time this season and notched her third double-digit rebounding performance and first double-double. She played 41 minutes and was 5-10 from the floor and 9-10 at the FT line with for blocked shots and an assist.

Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) averages 5.6 PPG and 3.3 rebounds per game and has one double-digit performance this season. Bagwell, the lone senior on the roster, has played in 83 career games and has topped 300 career points and 300 career rebounds.

Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) averages 7.2 PPG and 3.0 rebounds per game, sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.) averages 3.2 PPG and 1.8 rebounds/game, and freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas) averages 4.9 PPG and 2.8 rebounds/game.

Centenary is the third-best free-throw shooting team in the conference at 70.0 % and the Ladies were a solid 77.3 % (17-22) in the win over St. Thomas. The Ladies have held eight opponents to 70 points or less this season and allowed a season-low 54 points to Southwestern on Jan. 7, but fell 54-42.

The Bulldogs average 67.3 PPG as a team, shoot 39.1 % from the floor, 29.7 % from beyond the arc, and 65.6 from the FT line. TLU averages 41.9 rebounds per game and 16.3 assists per game. Junior G Kailee Mulkey (11.0 PPG) and sophomore G Lauren Sansano (10.7 PPG) average in double figures and sophomore F Brianna Wilson (6.4 rebounds/game) is TLU's leading rebounder this season.

Texas Lutheran is in third place in the conference standings, sitting just a half game behind Colorado College (10-2) and two games behind SCAC leader Trinity (10-1). The Bulldogs are 3.5 games ahead of Dallas. The top six teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the 2024 SCAC Basketball Championship, which Centenary will play host to Feb. 23-25 at the Gold Dome.

Centenary will face Southwestern (4-18, 3-10 SCAC) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas. The Pirates will face St. Thomas on Friday night.
