Ladies At Home This Weekend For Pair Of SCAC Games

Shreveport- The Centenary women's basketball team returns home this weekend for a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contests beginning with a matchup versus the Austin College 'Roos on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

 The Ladies (1-15, 0-8 SCAC) dropped a pair of league games on the road last weekend, 103-53 at Schreiner on Friday and 88-60 at Trinity on Saturday. Austin College enters Friday's contest at 3-13 overall and 2-6 in SCAC play. The 'Roos, 1-9 on the road this season, have lost six games in a row.

Friday's game is the second meeting between the two teams this season after the Ladies fell to the 'Roos on Dec. 1 in Sherman, Texas by a score of 68-55. The Ladies swept the season series over the 'Roos last season, winning 68-62 at home and then 62-58 in Sherman.

Centenary averages 53.6 PPG, 33.9 rebounds per game, and 8.1 assists/game. The Ladies are shooting 30.2 % from the floor this season, 25.9 % from beyond the arc, and 69.7 % from the free throw line. Sophomore G Amiyah Barrow (Baton Rouge, La.) is the Ladies' leading scorer this season (11.6 PPG) and ranks sixth in the league. Barrow also ranks fifth in assists, averaging 3.1/game. Sophomore F Kyra Stokes (Shreveport, La.) is the Ladies' leading rebounder (5.8/game) and is eighth in the conference.

Austin College averages 56.1 PPG, 39.6 rebounds/game, and 12.7 assists/game. The 'Roos shoot 34.8 % from the floor, 27.7 % from beyond the arc, and 58.9% from the FT line. Freshman G Lexi Martin leads them in scoring with 11.1 PPG as she is eighth in the conference in scoring and senior F Lauren Traylor is the 'Roos' leading rebounder at 7.5/game as she is the SCAC's second-leading rebounder.

Sophomore G TaNyjah Plumber (Kinder, La.) was the Ladies' leading scorer in both games last weekend as she reached double figures nine time this season and done so in six-straight games. Plumber is averaging 10.4 PPG, 4.6 rebounds/game, 1.3 assists/game, and 1.1 steals/game.

Barrow has reached double figures 10 times this season with a pair of double-digit rebounding performances. Stokes has scored in double figures five times and scored 10 points in each game last weekend. Senior F Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) returned to the court last weekend from an injury that has kept her sidelined since November and played well as she scored seven points against Schreiner and then nine against Trinity. She was 1-2 at the FT line with one rebound and one blocked shot in 23 minutes against the Mountaineers and 3-8 overall and 2-4 from the FT line with one trey and three rebounds in her 19 minutes on Saturday.

Sophomore F Layla Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) averages 7.5 PPG and has scored in double figures four times, freshman G Mallory Dougharty (Evadale, Texas) averages 4.9 PPG with one double-figure performance, and sophomore G Madison Davis (Shreveport, La.)  is averaging 4.3 PPG and has also scored in double digits once. Freshman G Kira Latson (Pearland, Texas) has played in eight games and scored a season-high five points against Schreiner.

The Ladies have shot 70 % or better from the FT line nine times this season and done so in four of their last five games. They were strong on offense in the loss at Trinity, finishing 36.5 % (19-52) from the floor, 35.3 % (6-17) from beyond the arc, and 16-22 from the free throw line for 72.7 %. Centenary made 15-20 at the FT line versus Schreiner for 75.0 %.

Centenary is in search of its first win at home this season as the Maroon and White are 0-5 so far with two of the losses being by 12 points or less. Friday's game is the first of five remaining home games in the regular season and one of three in a row. In fact, the Ladies play five of their final eight regular-season contests at the Gold Dome this season.

The Ladies will face the University of Dallas Crusaders (10-7, 4-4 SCAC) on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Crusaders will be in Houston on Friday night to face the University of St. Thomas Celts.
