Tornados drop 9-0 decision to Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - Down to a four-player rotation, the Brevard College Women's Tennis Program (0-5) returned to South Atlantic Conference action Sunday afternoon in Salisbury, N.C. falling 9-0 to the Catawba College Indians (8-1).

Catawba would open the afternoon taking a 3-0 lead following doubles play as the Tornados top tandem of Kelsey Kusher (Tampa, Fla.) and Sam Miranda (Valley City, Ohio) dropped game one by a final of 8-0, while Katie Hatter (Cedar Mountain, N.C.) and Carmen Boone (Hudson, N.C.) fell 8-0 in game two.

In singles competition, Brevard's No. 1 Kusher fell to Catawba's Erisa Onchi by a final of 8-0, while at No. 2, Catawba's Sophie Hirsch knocked off Miranda by a final of 8-0. The Tornados would suffer similar results at No. 3 and No. 4 singles as Hatter and Boone were each knocked off by a final of 8-0.

Similar to No. 3 doubles, the Tornados were forced to forfeit both No. 5 and No. 6 singles, give Catawba a 9-0 final decision.

Brevard will look to pick up their first win of this season this coming Thursday, Feb. 23 as they host South Atlantic Conference powerhouse Tusculum, with doubles action slated to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
