Tornados fall to 1-1 on Hilton Head trip

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Following their first win of the 2017 tennis season the Brevard College Tornados (1-9) fell to 1-1 on their spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C. falling 9-0 to DeSales University (6-1), Tuesday afternoon.

DeSales would open the afternoon up 3-0 following doubles play as the Tornados No. 2 tandem of Katie Hatter (Cedar Mountain, N.C.) and Carmen Boone (Hudson, N.C.) fell 8-2 to Sarah Lightner and Lindsay Driscoll, while Kelsey Kushner (Tampa, Fla.) and Sam Miranda (Valley City, Ohio) battled Kelly Nguyen and Amber Achenbach hard at No. 1 doubles, loosing by a final of 8-5.

In singles action, both Miranda and Boone would drop decisions at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively, by finals of 6-1, 6-0, while Hatter fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. The Tornados two top matches of the afternoon came at No. 5 and No. 1 singles and Gabi Harness (East Flat Rock, N.C.) fell 6-2, 6-1, while Kushner after dropping the opening game 6-0, turned around and battled 6-4 in the final frame.

The Tornados will continue their trip to the Palmetto State, Thursday, Mar. 9 as they tangle with Palm Beach Atlantic, with double action schedule to get underway at 12:30 p.m.
