Tornados fall 9-0 to Pioneers

BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College Women's Tennis team (0-6, 0-4 SAC) dropped their second straight conference bout of the season 9-0 to the Tusculum College Pioneers (4-3, 2-0 SAC) Thursday in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Tornados would open the afternoon with doubles play as Brevard's No. 1 team of freshman Kelsey Kushner (Tampa, Fla.) and junior Sam Miranda (Valley City, Ohio) fell to Franziska Funke and Katarina Majorova by a final of 8-0, while junior Katie Hatter (Cedar Mountain, N.C.) and freshman Gabi Harness (East Flat Rock, N.C.) fell 8-0 to Annie McCullough and Sarah Baker.

In singles action, Kusher fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while Miranda would drop No. 2 singles 8-0. The Tornados best match of the afternoon came at No. 4 singles as Harness battled Amber Lackey to an 8-8 tie breaker, before falling 7-5 in her best collegiate showing of the year.

Brevard is set to return back to the courts Saturday, Feb. 25 as they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to battle the Queens Royals with doubles action slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
