Women?s tennis dominates Salem International

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Brevard College Women's Tennis Team (1-8, 0-5 SAC) had a dominating, 7-2, victory against Salem International University (0-3) on Sunday morning.

The Tornados opened up with two wins in the doubles competition. Kelsey Kushner (Tampa, Fla.) and Sam Miranda (Valley City, Ohio) defeated Jen Foreman and Felicianna Reed 8-2 in the doubles No. 1 spot. Carmen Boone (Hudson, N.C.) and Katie Hatter (Cedar Mountain, N.C.) took the doubles No. 2 position eight games to four. Salem International won the No. 3 spot on a walkover.

Kushner kept her momentum going in the single competition winning 6-1, 6-3 against Jennifer Foreman at the No. 1 spot. Miranda followed winning at the No. 2 spot 6-4 in the first set. Felicianna Reed battled back in the second set to win 7-6, 7-3 in the tie breaker, but Miranda prevailed in the final set winning 12-10 in the ten point tie breaker. Hatter held on in the second set against Shelby Turpin to win 7-6 to capture the victory at position three.

Carmen Boone had a dominating performance at the No. 5 position winning 6-0 in both sets. Freshman Gabi Harness (East Flat Rock, N.C.) sealed the win for Brevard with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Melanie Williams.

Brevard will look to keep the momentum going in the Hilton Head tournament as they return to the courts on Tuesday, March 7, against DeSales beginning at noon.
