Ladies Fall At McMurry In SCAC Opener
The Centenary volleyball team was swept in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener by the McMurry University War Hawks on Saturday afternoon inside Kimbrell Arena.
Abilene, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team was swept in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener by the McMurry University War Hawks on Saturday afternoon inside Kimbrell Arena.
The Ladies (0-9, 0-1 SCAC) and War Hawks (6-5, 1-0 SCAC) were meeting for the first time since 2017 and also the first time as fellow SCAC members. McMurry now leads the all-time series with Centenary 7-0.
The SCAC divides its volleyball members into two divisions: Blue and Gold. Centenary and McMurry each compete in the Blue Division with Austin College, Colorado College, the University of Dallas and the University of St. Thomas. The Gold Division includes Concordia University, Schreiner University, Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University.
The War Hawks took the first set, 25-18, then won set two 25-15 and closed out the sweep by winning set three, 25-14. The Ladies finished the match with 41 digs, 23 kills, 21 assists, and five aces. The War Hawks tallied 56 digs, 43 kills, 39 assists, seven aces, and two solo blocks.

Aces: Junior S Kristi Hinze (Shepherd, Texas) – 5
Assists: Hinze – 20
Digs: Hinze – 14
Kills: Freshman OH Aaliyah Barnett (Dickinson, Texas) and sophomore OH Mackenzie Haley (Orange, Texas) – 7 each
Hinze had an impressive match for the Ladies as she had a team-best 20 assists, 14 digs, and five aces. The 14 digs and five aces are both season highs and her 20 assists are her third-highest total of the season and third time she has had 20 or more.
The Ladies will continue league play on Sunday afternoon with a visit to Irving, Texas to face the University of Dallas Crusaders at 1 p.m.
