
Ladies Fall In Five-Set Heartbreaker On Senior Day

Shreveport - The Centenary volleyball team lost a heartbreaker in five sets to the University of Dallas Crusaders on Sunday afternoon in its annual Senior Day match inside the Gold Dome.
The Ladies (1-23, 0-13 SCAC) won the first set by a score of 25-21 and led 21-20 in set two, but the Crusaders (2-25, 2-11 SCAC) went on a 5-0 run to finish the set and tie the match. Centenary responded with a 25-18 win in set three but Dallas evened the match with a 25-17 win in set four.
The Ladies held an 11-8 lead in set five and were just four points from clinching the match, but the Crusaders finished on a 7-0 run to claim the decisive fifth set and clinched the match. Centenary, which was swept by the McMurry University War Hawks on Friday evening at home in conference play, was seeking its first SCAC win since defeating the University of St. Thomas on Oct. 9, 2021.
Centenary, 1-9 on its home court this season, closes the regular season next weekend on the road with league matches against host Southwestern University and Trinity University in Georgetown, Texas. The Crusaders, 1-7 on the road this season, will also finish their regular season this weekend in Georgetown.
The Ladies finished Sunday's match with 104 digs, 48 kills, 44 assists – all season-high totals, along with eight service aces (second-most in a match this season) and a season-high tying four solo blocks.
The Crusaders tallied 115 digs, 57 kills, 47 assists, 11 aces, and one solo block. Centenary's best offensive set was the third as the Ladies finished with a .300 hitting percentage, posting 14 kills and just two errors in 40 total attacks.

Canady's four aces and two solo blocks are each season bests, the 12 kills are a season best for both Bagley and St. Martin, Liedy's 25 digs are a season high, and Hinze tallied a season-best 36 assists.
