The Ladies (1-10, 0-2 SCAC) picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday as they recorded a 3-0 sweep over the Wiley University Wildcats in a non-conference match at home as head coach Kayla Black recorded her first win with the Ladies.
Centenary has now won three-straight matches against Wiley with all three being sweeps. Centenary was back on its home court for the first time since Aug. 30-31 when it hosted the "Cajun Country Classic" and is now 1-3 this season at the Gold Dome. Austin College (9-6, 2-0 SCAC) enters Saturday's action riding a four-match winning streak.
Centenary is 0-2 so far in conference play with losses on the road against the University of Dallas and McMurry University Sept. 21-22. Austin College has picked up conference wins against the University of Dallas and McMurry.
The SCAC divides its volleyball members into two divisions: Blue and Gold. Centenary and Austin College each compete in the Blue Division with Colorado College, the University of Dallas, McMurry University, and the University of St. Thomas.
The Gold Division includes Concordia University, Schreiner University, Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University. The 'Roos currently lead the Blue division with the Ladies in last place, just behind St. Thomas.
Austin College leads the all-time series with Centenary, 21-4 and 19-3 in SCAC contests. The teams have played four times in Shreveport and have split the matches. The 'Roos have won eight in a row in the series which dates back to 2012. The teams will meet again on Oct. 24 in Sherman, Texas. The Ladies were picked to finish 11th in the preseason SCAC poll while the 'Roos were picked seventh.
The league has adopted a change in format this season as the top eight teams will qualify for the postseason conference tournament. Teams within their division will play a double round robin, teams outside of their division will play a single round robin, giving Blue Division teams a 15-game conference schedule and Gold Division teams a 14-game schedule.
Following the completion of the regular season, the top three teams from each division, plus the next two best conference records (regardless of division), will compete in a single-elimination tournament, November 15 and 16, to determine the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. Austin College and University of Dallas will both host quarterfinal matches on Friday, followed by both of Friday's semifinal matches as well as Saturday's championship match contested at Austin College.
