Junior Natalie Scates brings Gym Talk!

Hello Ladies fans!

This is junior Natalie Scates here with this week's gym talk. We had a very exciting weekend with TWO home meets, both against Texas Women's University. Centenary also had a busy weekend with our two meets, basketball's four games and baseball hosting a tournament with eight games!!! WOW, it was a crazy time here at Centenary.

The first meet of the weekend, which was on Friday, we posted a season high team score of 185.70. The Ladies also posted new season highs on vault and bars. Junior Navia Jordan received an impressive 9.775 to snag second place on floor and post a new season high, and junior Tavia Smith finished first in the all-around competition with a 37.175. We definitely made some huge improvements this week with the highlight of the day being our bar team going 6-for-6! We have been working really hard on the mental side of competing and it really paid off in our bars rotation. It was so much fun to watch our bar team continue to build momentum with each made routine!

After a day of rest, on which many of your Ladies got to enjoy the Mardi Gras parade with family, we were back in action on Sunday afternoon. We again made some major improvements as our team score shows; a new season best team score of 189.75, along with season best scores on vault and beam. We again used our focus on the performing side of competing with our beam team going 6-for-6! Our competitive mindset is improving with each meet and our confidence is growing. We are continuing to set some team and individual highs: sophomore Cami Bea Austin, sophomore Delia Ardoin, and freshman Jerrica Harris all landed career highs on the beam. Juniors Navia Jordan and Tavia Smith, along with Senior Ashley White, all received season high scores on the beam. Freshman Jenny Jackson had season best scores on both the vault and floor. Navia captured the first-place spot on the floor with a 9.8 and Tavia took home second all-around with her career best score of 38.2.

Overall, your Ladies came out and had a great weekend. There were some new people in the lineups and lots of new skills. As we really get into the groove of season, our scores are steadily rising and so goes our confidence. Next weekend should be another action-packed weekend when the University of Alaska-Anchorage comes to the Dome for a pair of meets. Here's to continuing on the road to improving yet again!

Hope to see y'all in the Dome this Friday!
