Harris Claims Beam Title, Ladies Gymnastics Posts Third Straight 191+ Result

NORMAL, Ill. - When you have not performed on an event during the season, there are few ways to make an entrance the way sophomore Evelyn Harris did Sunday afternoon, March 4.

Harris, the last Ladies competitor of the meet, received a 9.775 to tie for the beam title as Centenary fell to Illinois State, 193.600-191.075. It was the third consecutive 191+ score for the Ladies this season.

The Ladies also claimed second and third on floor with junior Navia Jordan's 9.800 and sophomore Cami Bea Austin's 9.775.

Freshman Sierra Ponder recorded a huge career high on bars by one-tenth, receiving a 9.750 (including a 9.800 from one judge) to finish tied for third.

On vault, Austin and junior Tavia Smith tied for third with a 9.575.

With a 48.575 on floor, Centenary scored 48+ on the event for the fourth straight meet. The score also bests the Redbirds by .025 on the event.

The 48.050 total on beam, where the Ladies did not count a fall, was the second consecutive 48+ on the event and the third time in 2018.

Leading the way for Illinois State was Gabrielle Cooke, who won on vault (9.825), beam (9.775), and floor (9.900) to claim the all-around title with a 39.250 total.

Centenary returns to action Friday night, March 9, when it takes on Southeast Missouri State. First rotation in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, is set for 6:30 p.m.
