Ladies Softball Introduces the Newcomers for 2018 Spring Season

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Ladies softball team, coming off its best Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season finish in program history, introduces the newcomers for the upcoming 2018 season.

"We are excited about the newcomers on this year's team," explained head coach Mark Suire. "This group includes a good freshman class, along with four transfers, who all bring something unique to the softball program. Our main focus was to bring in talented student-athletes who could step in and contribute to the success of our program immediately, and many of them made a positive impact during the fall season.

"The addition of these Ladies to our roster gives us much needed depth at some key positions, which is important as we continue to build a quality program," added Coach Suire.

Taylor Abshire

Abbeville, La. / Vermilion Catholic HS

Abshire pitched and played first base for Vermilion Catholic High School. She helped the Eagles finish second at the Louisiana High School State Championships in 2017. Academically, she graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Abshire is the daughter of Maria and Benji Abshire. At Centenary, she is majoring in English.

Keylee Adair

Henderson, Texas / Carlisle HS

Adair was a pitcher and shortstop for head coach David Minnix at Carlisle High School. With the Indians, she was named Region Three, District 19 Co-MVP while also being named to the FCA All-Star game. Adair was a three sport athlete at Carlisle, also playing volleyball for Cal Goss and basketball for Kody Evans. Academically, she made the A-Honor Roll and won awards for Citizenship, Beta Club Community Service, and Class Awards in English, Physics, and BSIS.

The daughter of Jade Johnson (mother), Jason Adair (father), and Justin Johnson (stepfather), she has three sisters, Christian Williams and Marlie and Emery Adair, with one brother, Judsen Johnson. At Centenary, she is undecided upon a major.

Krystle Griffin

Griffin pitched for the Alfred M. Barbe High School Bucs.

Griffin is the daughter of Danny and La'nay Griffin and has one sister, Jalyssa Griffin, and two brothers, Danny Griffin Jr. and Shannon Booker. At Centenary, she is majoring in chemistry.

Jordan Hughes

Hughes returns to Shreveport after playing three seasons for Mary-Hardin Baylor. With the Cru, she played in 42 games with 28 starts. Prior to her time in Belton, Texas, she caught and played shortstop and third base at Captain Shreve High School.

Hughes is the daughter of Bonnie Hughes and has two sisters, Rachel and Grace. At Centenary, she is majoring in sociology.

Sydney Hurley

Hurley caught and played third base for head coach Ashley Martin at Diboll High School. With the Lumberjacks, she earned First Team All-District accolades as a catcher.

Sydney is the daughter of Christi Salmasi and Kevin Hurley and has a sister, Reagan Hurley, and one brother, Kevin Hurley Jr. At Centenary, she is majoring in English.

Cheyenne LaComb

LaComb pitched for head coach Kristen Morvant at Gueydan High School. Also a basketball player for the Bears, she started at guard and helped Gueydan win the 2017 State Championship.

The daughter of Ryan and Dotty LaComb, she has two sisters, Kendra and Emily LaComb. At Centenary, she is majoring in biology.

Erin Lewis

Lewis caught for head coach Betty Hicks at Leesville High School. She was named All-District four times and All-State Honorable Mention while helping the Wampus Cats to the State Quarterfinals her junior year. Academically, she was on the Principal's list and in National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society.

The daughter of Trey and Lisa Lewis, she has one sister, Casey Lewis. At Centenary, she is majoring in biology and religious studies.

Rebecca McGough

McGough was a utility player for head coach Ashley Endsley at Brownsboro High School. With the Bears, she was named Defensive Player of the Year in both her junior and senior seasons. Academically, she was All-District all four years of high school and Academic All-State her senior year.

McGough is the daughter of John and Dinky McGough and has two sisters, Mary Barras and Lauren Scott with one brother, Jeremy Petty. At Centenary, she is majoring in mathematics.

Faith Nailes

Nailes played shortstop since eighth grade for head coach Joy-Dee Wallace at Castor High School. She has multiple accolades for the Tigers. Senior Season: District MVP and All-State, recording the highest batting average (.688) in all of Louisiana while also having the most RBI's. Junior Season: All-State and All-District First Team while also being Defensive Player of the Year and most RBI's. Sophomore and Freshman Seasons: All-District First Team and Defensive Player of the Year. Eighth Grade: All-District First Team and most RBI's. Academically, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA.

The daughter of Jonathan and Cindy Nailes, she has one sister, Hailey. At Centenary, she is majoring in biology.

Amberlee Nix

Nix comes to Centenary after playing at Hinds Community College for two seasons, where she was named the May 2016 Athlete of the Month and Academic All-State in 2017.

Prior to Hinds, she pitched for head coach Anthony Mullins at North Webster HS. With the Knights, she was named All-Area all four seasons by the Shreveport Times - and receiving All-State recognition by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) three times and Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-State honors twice. Nix also received All-Area Pitcher of the Year her freshman and sophomore seasons of high school.

Nix is the daughter of Kristy and Jeff Nix and has two brothers, Jacey and Noah. At Centenary, she is majoring in history.

Jaylee Riggs

Riggs pitched and played third base for head coach Debbie Guidry at Riverdale Academy. With the Rebels, she was named All-District all four seasons. She was also named an All-Star her senior season. She was honored as MVP her final three seasons while being named Defensive Player of the Year her sophomore season and Offensive Player of the Year her junior and senior seasons. Academically, she won the DARR award and graduated Valedictorian.

Riggs is the daughter of Jeremy and Joni Riggs and has a brother, Jackson, and a sister, Julia Grace. At Centenary, she is majoring in biology.

Clarissa de Santiago

Clarissa is the daughter of Veronica de Santiago. At Centenary, she is majoring in chemistry.

Na'Lani Zeno

Zeno played center field for head coach Wayne Fontenot at Lafayette High School. With the Lions, she was named a Wendy's Heisman State Finalist in 2017 and a four-time All-District performer for all four seasons of high school. Zeno also played volleyball for head coach Julie Dawson and basketball for Tarunye Kanonu, receiving basketball All-District accolades her final two seasons. Academically, she received the 4.0 GPA Cumulative Award, a member of the National Honor Society, and named to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Academic All-Composite Team. Other accolades include being named Louisiana Girl's State Parish Governor, Most Outstanding Community Service Member, and Second Place for the Beta Club in creative writing.

The daughter of Mary and Leonard Zeno, she has one sister, Nadia. At Centenary, she is majoring in chemistry.
