MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Ladies scored four runs in the top of the first in game one on their way to a 7-2 win, but Centenary (6-2) allowed four unearned runs to score in a 4-2 loss to Huntingdon (4-6) for a doubleheader split in softball Saturday afternoon, February 24.
Centenary scored seven runs in the first three innings of game one. In the first, junior Payton LeBlanc walked and moved up on a wild pitch. After an infield single, a double steal allowed LeBlanc to score the first run of the game. Senior Anna Dunn then grounded back to the pitcher, but a throwing error allowed two more runs to score. A stolen base and another Hawks error allowed Dunn to cross the plate for the fourth run of the inning.
The Ladies scored a run in the second after no one was on base with two outs. In the third, an RBI single by junior Wendy Gillet and a sacrifice fly by junior Sydney Hurley scored the final runs of the ballgame for the Maroon and White.
Huntingdon scored a pair of unearned runs in the first game. In the second, Rayne Ellis hit an RBI, infield single. An RBI groundout by Katie Dewey in the fourth produced the final run of a Ladies 5-run win.
Freshman Taylor Abshire (3-0) threw the final 4.1 innings and allowed an unearned run and five hits. Lindsey Selph (2-2) took the complete game loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) and seven hits.
Dunn led Centenary from the plate with a 2-for-4 effort and a pair of RBI's and two runs scored.
The Ladies could not overcome five errors and four unearned run by the home team in a two-run loss in game two. With the Ladies down 1-0 in the third, freshman Erin Lewis hit an RBI double to tie the game. Later down 3-1, Centenary scored a run in the sixth on a Gillet single, but Huntingdon added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead back to a pair.
Junior Nichole Aldridge (1-2) took the loss, allowing three hits and three unearned runs in 3.2 innings pitched. Madison Hunt (2-2) picked up the win for Huntingdon, allowing eight hits and two runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
Centenary takes more than a week off before returning to action March 6 in a doubleheader at Grambling State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
