Ladies Softball Drops Single Game to #12 East Texas Baptist, 5-1

SHREVEPORT, La. - Sophomore Hallie Smith gave the Ladies a brief lead when she crushed her second home run of the season, but the Tigers scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh as Centenary (10-14) fell to #12 East Texas Baptist (21-4) 5-1 Tuesday night, March 27.

Leading off the fourth inning, Smith jumped on the 1-1 pitch and left the yard in right center to give Centenary the 1-0 lead. East Texas Baptist threatened in the top of the fifth, but junior catcher Sydney Hurley dove and caught a foul bunt for the first out Junior pitcher Nichole Aldridge charged in to catch another bunt pop up for the second out. With two Tigers on base with two outs, Hurley pounced on a bunt attempt and threw to first to just catch the runner for the third out.

However, East Texas Baptist took the lead for good when MacKenzie Anderson hit her sixth home run of the year with two on base in the sixth. Nikki Gil added a pinch hit solo shot to lead off the seventh and the Tigers scored another run for the final four-run margin.

Senior Kelsey Ancelot finished the game with a pair of hits for the Ladies. Aldridge (5-7) took the loss, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two in six innings of work.

For East Texas Baptist, Rocki Tello (10-0) allowed five hits and one run in five innings of work for the win, while Jordan Anderson allowed just a walk in two innings of work for her second save of the season.

Centenary returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts Texas A&M Texarkana.
