Three-run 7th of Game 1 Spark Ladies Softball to Sweep of the Day

CONWAY, Ark. - Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the seventh of game one against Westminster (1-3), softball rallied for three runs and the 5-4 win against the Blue Jays. In the nightcap against Hendrix (3-4), Centenary (4-1) scored five runs in the fourth and never looked back in a 5-1 win to close out the weekend at the Hendrix Spring Fling Sunday afternoon, February 18.

Down 4-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Ladies scored the winning runs without recording an out. Junior Wendy Gillet led off with a single. Sophomore Haley Campbell cut the deficit in half with an RBI double before senior Kelsey Ancelot doubled to move Campbell to third. After a walk loaded the bases, junior Margueax Smith doubled to score the winning runs as Centenary walked off against the Blue Jays for the second time in as many days.

Smith threw the final four innings in relief for the Ladies, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out a pair. It was her first win of the season and second collegiate victory. From the plate, Ancelot had a trio of hits and scored the winning run.

Freshman Erin Lewis added an RBI single in the first.

Westminster led 2-1 before scoring two in the fifth to open up a three-run lead. Amber Tepen led off the fifth with a double and advanced to third on Katie Price's single. After Price swiped second to put a pair in scoring position, Brooke Laidl doubled home both runners. Centenary pulled within 4-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Price took the loss for the Blue Jays in 6+ innings of work, allowing 10 hits and five runs (four earned) with seven strikeouts.

In game two, Centenary exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth and never looked back in a 5-1 win against the Warriors. Lewis led off the fourth with a single and moved to third when Gillet smashed a pinch-hit double. Senior Anna Dunn then walked to load the bases before junior Cassie Gonzales singled in the first run of the game. Campell then grounded into a fielder's choice, but heads-up base running plated a pair of runs. An Ancelot single and an RBI groundout by junior Payton LeBlanc capped the five-run outburst.

Hendrix scored a single unearned run in the bottom of the fourth.

Gillet led Centenary from the plate with two hits in as many at-bats with a run scored. Junior Nichole Aldridge (1-1) grabbed the complete-game win, allowing eight hits and an unearned run while striking out five.

Emily Stockalper took the complete-game loss for the Warriors, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out a pair.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday with a pair of games in Longview, Texas. The Ladies take on Grambling State at 3 p.m., before finishing the night against host-LeTourneau at 7 p.m.
