SHREVEPORT, La. - Centenary (12-16) lost 5-3 in extra innings of game one before falling 5-1 in game two against Hendrix (16-13) in a non-conference doubleheader Monday afternoon, April 9.
Trailing 1-0 in the third of game one with one out, senior Kelsey Ancelot singled and advanced to second on junior Payton LeBlanc's walk. After a double steal, senior Anna Dunn walked. However, the fourth ball was wild and skipped just far enough away to score both Ancelot and LeBlanc.
After a run by the Warriors in the fifth to force the first Centenary extra inning game of the season, the international tie-breaking rule went into effect. With a runner on second, an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt put runners on the corners with no outs. After a steal of home allowed the visitors to take the lead, Karli Sewell homered to right center for two insurance runs.
Ancelot scored in the bottom of the eighth on an error by the first baseman, but LeBlanc was thrown out at third. A pickoff at first essentially ended the Ladies threat.
Sewell had a hit in all three at-bats with two RBI's and a run scored. Emily Stockalper (5-8) picked up the complete-game win, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned) in eight innings of work.
Junior Margeaux Smith (2-2) took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned) in seven innings of work.
In game two, Hendrix jumped on freshman starter Taylor Abshire for three runs in the first. Deva Bharne doubled and scored on Jordan Mallard's single. After Sewell's single put runners on the corners, Laura Mortan cleared the bases with a two-out double.
Bharne added a two-run home run in the fifth.
The lone Centenary run came from freshman pinch hitter Keylee Adair. She smashed her first collegiate home run to left in the seventh, her first hit of the season.
Abshire (3-6) took the loss in the circle for the Ladies, allowing four hits and three runs in 0.2 innings of work. Savannah Draud (8-5) picked up the complete game win, allowing four hits and one run with six strikeouts.
Centenary returns to action for its final home games of the season this weekend against Dallas. The Ladies will celebrate senior day after the doubleheader on Saturday, April 14. First pitch of the weekend is set for 1 p.m.
