Big Fourth Inning Drops Softball against #16 East Texas Baptist, 7-5

MARSHALL, Texas - The Ladies held leads of 1-0 and 3-1, but a five-run fourth by the #16 Tigers put the home team in the lead for good as Centenary fell to East Texas Baptist 7-5 in the season opener for both teams in Marshall, Texas Saturday night, February 10.

Sophomore Haley Campbell scored the first run of the game in the top of the third when junior Margeaux Smith was hit by a pitch. After the Tigers tied the contest in the bottom of the frame, senior Anna Dunn led off the top of the fourth with her first home run of the season. The Ladies extended the lead to 3-1 when Campbell singled, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches, and scored when senior Jordan Hughes got in a rundown when trying to swipe second.

Down 7-3 in the seventh, Centenary scored a pair of runs. Freshman Erin Lewis roped an RBI double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout.

Campbell led Centenary with two hits in three at-bats with a pair of runs scored.

Down 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, East Texas Baptist scored four runs to take the lead for good. With one out and a runner at second, Jackie Ramos hit an infield single to put runners on the corners. However, an error scored the runner from third to cut the deficit in half. Linzie Lewis plated Ramos on an RBI single, Daniella Solis added an RBI triple, and Sabrina Salts capped the scoring with a two-run home run.

Sophomore Nichole Aldridge took the loss for Centenary in relief, allowing four runs on three hits in 0.2 innings pitched. McKayla Hendrix threw the final 3.2 innings for the win for East Texas Baptist, allowing four hits and two runs.

Offensively for the Tigers, Solis had three hits in as many at-bats with an RBI and a run scored.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday, February 13, with a doubleheader at Louisiana College. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
